Battle Report 22

Today I managed to get a game against Space Wolves! I used the same list as last time, but my friend changed his list, hopefully to improve it. Today, we fielded 2,250 points so I could add my Taurox Prime, an armored Sentinel and a lascannon heavy weapons squad to my list.

Hmm, I think his new list comprised of Canis Wolfborn (his Warlord, and he picked the Legendary Fighter Warlord Trait), a Rune Priest, Thunderwolf Calvary, Blood Claws, Wulfen, Lukas the Trickster and a Venerable Dreadnought in a Vanguard Detachment, and a Spearhead Detachment of Bjorn the Fell-Handed and 3 squads of Long Fangs with a bunch of lascannons, plasma cannons and plasma guns, each of them having a Wolf Pack Leader in Terminator armor and storm shield.

I used the same Imperial Guard list I took last Thursday (for some reason, Games Workshop still hasn't delivered my Armored Sentinel...). So basically my Vanguard Detachment of my Tank Commander (Leman Russ Executioner with lascannon, plasma cannons, Kurov's Aquila and Grand Strategist Warlord Trait), a 2nd Leman Russ Executioner, a Leman Russ Annihilator, an Armored Sentinel with a plasma cannon, and 2 Wyverns, a Battalion Detachment of 2 Company Commanders (1 with plasma pistol, the other with a bolt pistol and a power sword), 3 infantry squads with a plasma gun and bolt pistols for the Sergeants, a Ministorum Priest, a Valkyrie with lascannon, heavy bolters and multiple rocket pods, a heavy weapons squad with 3 lascannons, a Primaris Psyker, and annother Battalion Detachment of 2 Tempestors Prime with Tempestus Command Rods, a 2nd Primaris Psyker, 10 Kasrkins, 2 squads of 5 Kamikaze Troopers with 2 hot-shot volley guns each, 2 Tempestus command squads with 4 plasma guns each and a Taurox Prime with a Taurox gatling cannon, storm bolter and 2 hot-shot volley guns.

We had Front-line Warfare again, and placed the 4 objectives in the no-man's zone and our respective deployment zones. Obviously my opponent got first turn since his highly elite army had so few drops and he had a +1 to his roll. I failed to seize the Initiative, and he went first. He used the Cunning of the Wolf Stratagem and placed his Wulfen on the hunt. Meaning they can Deep Strike at the end of his movement phase more than 9" away from my guys. Knowing that, I spread out my tanks and used my Armored Sentinel, Taurox Prime and infantry to bubble-wrap my tanks. My Primaris Psykers, the Company Commander with plasma pistol and 2 plasma command squads were embarked in the Valkyrie.

Turn 1

My opponent moved his Blood Claws forward with Bjorn and the Venerable Dreadnought, and Lukas the Trickster. The Rune Priest jumped forward with his jump pack, and his Thunderwolf Calvary moved and advanced along with Canis Wolfborn. The Rune Priest casted the Storm Caller power on the Thunderwolf Calvary and...failed. Whoops. The Long Fangs fired most of their weapons on the poor Valkyrie and brought him down to literally just 1 wound left. A couple of lascannons fired on my Leman Russ Annihilator, but did only 2 wounds to him. It didn't matter - the three squads mostly fired on my Valkyrie, who was probably saved by the Hard to Hit rule. Good Emperor, he only had one wound left. Ugh. The Wulfen charged my infantry squad that was bubble-wrapping my Leman Russ Annihilator and decimated them in combat before consolidating into my poor Ministorum Priest. The Thunderwolf Calvary, thanks to advancing, couldn't charge. Probably the only thing that saved me. My opponent gained 1 victory point for First Blood. As usual.

My turn was a convoluted one. Basically I dropped my wounded Valkyrie into hover mode and moved him forward to grav chute my guys into a building to take cover in it. My remaining 2 infantry squads moved forward to intercept the Wulfen that was dangerously close to my Leman Russ Annihilator, while my Ministorum Priest fell back so as to allow me to shoot them. I then Deep Strike my Kamikaze Troopers in the opponent's deployment zone, with the plasma squads on the left and the hot-shot guys on the right.

The Primaris Psyker tried to smite the Dreadnought, but my opponent denied the witch for one of them, but I managed to put about 2 mortal wounds on him with the 2nd smite. My Armored Sentinel put another 2 wounds on him with his plasma cannon. The first plasma command squad then blew him up with their supercharged plasma guns. The second plasma command squad fired and killed the first Wolf Guard Terminator. On the other side, my Kamikaze Troopers combined fire to kill at least the 2nd Wolf Guard Terminator with their hot-shot las-weaponry before my first plasma Kamikaze command squad took care of the rest. Well, it was quite convoluted as I said, because what happened was that the first Long Fang squad had one lascannon guy and one Sergeant left, the 2nd one was left with only one Sergeant. The Wyverns fired with their stormshard mortars (their heavy bolters doing nothing to the Wulfen because of their Feel No Pain) and decimated the third Long Fang squad, also leaving one Sergeant. The 2nd plasma Kamikaze command squad then split their fire, with 2 guys firing into the lascannon guy and the sergeant, and then 1 guy firing at 1 sergeant. Fortunately, I succeeded in killing every single one of them, emptying the building.

If I'm not mistaken, my hot-shot volley guns did absolutely nothing...maybe killed 1 Terminator - my first Kamikaze plasma command squad was the one that killed the majority of the Long Fangs. Sigh...anyway the Taurox Prime fired on the Wulfen and did almost absolutely nothing. I can't remember, but I think they killed one guy at most. The 2 infantry squads fired, with one of them receiving the First Rank, Fire! Second Rank, Fire! order from my Company Commander, and they managed to kill about 2 Wulfen or so. And one guy died from rolling a one for his supercharged plasma gun. Ouch. I remember by the end of my shooting phase, there was only 2 Wulfen left. Anyway, the lascannons heavy weapons squad fired on the Thunderwolf Calvary and one shot got through the storm shields' invulnerable 3++ save to deal 5 or 6 damage straight, killing one of them. The Leman Russ Executioners and Leman Russ Annihilator also fired on them, but I think I only killed another one at the most, leaving just 2 Thunderwolf guys left. I then had my 2 infantry squads and company commander charge into the 2 surviving Wulfen - despite falling back, my Ministorum Priest was still around to grant the extra 1 attack to my infantry. One failed the charge, but the other made it in, and my Company Commander joined in (I had to use a command re-roll to make the charge successful, which was dumb, and I failed to refund my Command Point - which was hilarious because I was earning 3-4 Command Points from rolling 5s and 6s every time my opponent spent his). Despite hacking away with bayonets, I only managed to kill one Wulfen, and the other survived to kill one Guardsman. Or was it two? I can't remember. Anyway I didn't lose many Guardsmen to morale, thankfully.

Turn 2

The Blood Claws and Lukas moved toward my 10-men Kasrkins, along with Bjorn. The Rune Priest moved toward my Valkyrie. The Thunderwolf Calvary moved right on top of my 2nd infantry squad, who failed the charge against the Wulfen, and Canis Wolfborn moved toward my Leman Russ Annihilator. Then the Blood Claws killed 4 of my Kasrkins with their shooting, and charged them. Oh, and the Rune Priest tried to smite my Valkyrie, but this time I was the one who denied his psychic spell with my Primaris Psykers. I failed to deny the Storm Caller power casted on his Thunderwolf Calvary, however,

In melee, the Blood Claws and Lukas killed the 10-men Kasrkin, wiping them out. I used the Counter-Offensive Stratagem and had my guys attack the last remaining Wulfen, but I only succeeded in doing one wound. Ouch. What a waste of 2 Command Points. He then wiped the floor with 3 more Guardsmen. Meanwhile, the Thunderwolf Calvary charged my 2nd infantry squad (whose plasma gunner blew himself up earlier) and killed 5 of them, leaving just 4 of them. Canis Wolfborn charged both my Leman Russ Annihilator and Ministorum Priest, and he failed the charge for the first one despite re-rolls, only to eat a lascannon shot in Overwatch and take 5 wounds straight. Ouch. He did run in and mopped the floor with the poor Ministorum Priest in combat, however. Oh well.

Oh, and something hilarious happened. The Rune Priest charged my Valkyrie, and took only one wound from a heavy bolter shot in overwatch. And then he failed to wound my Valkyrie. At all. Heh. It was just 1 wound.

Rune Priest trying to charge my Valkyrie.
I rolled for morale, and while the infantry squad embroiled with the Wulfen passed their morale test, the 2nd infantry squad lost 1 guy to morale because I rolled a 3. Now that I remember, I forgot to have my remanining guys strike back. Not that it mattered.

Anyway, in my next turn, I had my 3 guys fall back. Actually, screw it, I had all my infantry fall back from combat. There was no point having them tied up in combat with the Wulfen. Then I moved all my plasma Kamikaze Troopers closer to Bjorn while my plasma command squads, Primaris Psykers and Company Commander moved toward the Rune Priest. Psychic phase, and the Rune Priest denied the first guy's witch, but ate 2 mortal wounds from the second Primaris Psyker's Smite. Just 1 wound left. All my plasma guys opened fire on Bjorn, but because they were not in rapid fire range, I could only fire one shot each. Sad to say, I lost a Kamikaze Trooper to plasma supercharge, but I managed to put 6 wounds on Bjorn.

Nope...Valkyrie is still alive with one wound even after all that.
On the other side, my surviving 2 squads of Kamikaze Troopers opened fire with their hot-shot lasguns and hot-shot volley guns and killed most of the Blood Claws, leaving just 2 of them. Phew. But those two survivors and Lukas remained there to threaten my Kamikaze Troopers. Uh oh. I'll worry about him later. Back in my deployment zone, I fired the lascannons heavy weapon team and they failed to hit anything depsite re-rolls - I think I got one hit in, only to fail to wound...sigh. The Wyverns fired their heavy bolters on Canis Wolfborn but failed to take that one wound off him. Their Stormshard mortars fell on the Thunderwolf Calvary, but I think I only succeeded in wounding one of them. Can't remember if I killed him. Probably not. 2+ save because he was in cover against my Wyverns, after all. My infantry squad was ordered to Get Back into the Fight! by my Company Commander and they actually killed Canis Wolfborn with a lasgun. Yeah, get this. Not the plasma gun, not the Sergeant's bolt pistol, but a single lasgun round took down the mighty Canis Wolfborn. They weren't kidding when they said the humble lasgun was what accounted for the most kills in the galaxy. Anyway, after Canis Wolfborn was slain by a single humble lasgun shot, I earned 1 Victory Point for Slay the Warlord.

Holy Terra!

The Leman Russ Executioner fired on the Thunderwolf Calvary and despite the tank order to get as many hits with his Executioner cannon as possible, only succeeded in killing one of them. It was up to my Leman Russ Annibilator to kill the sole remaining Thunderwolf Calvary, and he did so. I breathed a sigh of relief when my opponent failed 2 of his saves and 4 damage killed that last guy. The lascannons fired on the last 2 surviving Blood Claws and wiped them out.

My Primaris Pyskers, 2 plasma command squads and Company Commander then charged the Rune Priest - and none of them...yeah, seriously, none of my first 4 units killed him. He saved against my first Primaris Psyker, and my second Psyker failed most of his hits, while my plasma command squads didn't do much and he saved against the little wound they did. It was up to my Company Commander and his chainsword to deal 2 wounds...only for the Rune Priest to finally fail that one save and he bit the dust. Deja vu...it seems that my Company Commander is always coming in to save the day with his trusty chainsword. Didn't he do the exact same thing against that wounded Terminator last week? Hack him down with his chainsword when my Primaris Psykers and 8 plasma guardsmen failed to do anything to him? Wow...this Company Commander is a master duelist.

Well, I essentially tabled my opponent in 2 turns. He only had a 2-wound Bjorn and Lukas left. I still had all my tanks and my Valkyrie, who had flown out of combat (Fly is so convenient), despite only have one wound left. The Armored Sentinel and Taurox Prime who did nothing during the second turn. And half an infantry squad - the one who had the honor of killing the mighty Canis Wolfborn with their humble lasguns, and 2 Guardsmen. And 4 squads of Kamikaze Troopers and their 2 commanders. And 2 psykers. And 2 company commanders, with 2 plasma command squads. As there was nothing he could do, and he couldn't prevent me from capturing all the objectives and I was on course to destroy both Bjorn and Lukas during my next turn, he decided to surrender.

Somehow I managed to win against a scary list. Well, I'm going to have to once again ask everyone for advice on behalf of my friend. How should he have improved his list? Is he bringing too many Long Fangs? Does he need more Wulfen and Thunderwolf Calvary? Those guys were terrifying. They wrecked my infantry and killed them. Ouch.

Anyway, I look forward to playing more games with my Imperial Guard. I hope I get my Sentinels soon so that I can field a Brigade. We'll see if they're more powerful that way!

Thousand Sons Helbrute

Today, Warhammer 40,000's official Facebook page posted a poll asking what we're more excited for. Obviously, being a Thousand Sons fan, I voted for Thousand Sons over Adeptus Custodes. The link to the poll is here.

But I missed this picture the first time.

I'm going to sound like Natfka (who is an awesome bloke and a top, top Warhammer 40,000 blogger) but I wonder if this might actually be a huge hint at Thousand Sons getting a Psyker Dreadnaught. Or Psyker Helbrute. AWESOME!

Looking forward to the new codex! If this is true, I can't wait! I want a psychic Helbrute for Thousand Sons! WOOHOO! Anyway, I'll keep you posted when I get more news. Until next time!

Oh, by the way, Thousand Sons are 49% as compared to the Adeptus Custodes' 51%. Start voting for Thousand Sons, people!

Tzaangors in Thousand Sons

I've to admit, I'm quite taken with the Tzaangors in the Thousand Sons ever since the announcement yesterday that we'll be getting Disciples of Tzeentch ported over to Thousand Sons in Warhammer 40,000. I didn't like them before because I didn't think they have any synergy with the Rubric Marines or Scarab Occult Terminators. They were like cannon fodder...just brought along to die or something.

On the other hand, I had always been interested in Disciples of Tzeentch because...well, any Thousand Sons player would be interested in Tzeentch. However, I was kind of sad that it was only for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar, and I'm not that intereted in fantasy.

However, now we get Tzaangors ported over from Disciples of Tzeentch to Thousand Sons! I think this is really cool. Not because I'm junping on the mutant bandwagon but because of the potential synergies and variety of Tzaangors that we might get, as opposed as just fielding a cannon fodder unit to screen my Rubric Marines (which seems boring to me). In contrasst, if I can synergize my Tzaangors and pull cool stuff off with them, then I'll be happy to get them. So what do we get?

First is the Tzaangor Shaman. He's a psyker, I bet, with a disc, and good melee stuff. But what you want him for is that whenever you kill an enemy model, you may add an extra Tzaangor to a nearby Tzaangor unit with his psychic power. At least for fantasy, anyway. I don't know how it'll change for Thousand Sons, but I bet it's something similar.

Next is Tzaangor Enlightened who are Elite Tzaangors that can take a disc, are powerful melee combatants and can re-roll hit and wound rolls if an enemy unit within 3" has already attacked them.

Then you have Tzaangor Skyfires who are ranged elite or Fast Attack Tzaangors that can also take a disc and fly around shooting stuff. It looks like they'll be anti-tank units? I'm not sure. But they seem to have the sniper rule that does mortal wounds on rolls of 6s.

Finally, we have the Mutalith Vortex that can heal 1D3 wounds every turn, is a giant big monster, and gives a debuff aura to...well, debuff your foes. I'm not sure how it'll translate into Warhammer 40,000, but the fantasy version has you roll a dice and debuff or inflict mortal wounds on a unit 15" away every turn. On a 1, the unit gets -1 Leadership for the rest of the battle. On a 2, the unit has to roll a D6 every turn and if they roll a 1, they can't move, shoot, charge or cast psychic spells until their next turn. And this lasts the whole game. On a 3, they get -1 to their movement for the rest of the battle. On a 4, D3 mortal wounds (yay!). On a 5, D6 mortal wounds (even more yay!). On a 6, D6 mortal wounds AND each unit that is slain will produce a Chaos Spawn. Well...not that I'll have any reinforcement points set aside for it...so...

Anyway, these are the units we know we'll be getting. I don't know if we'll be getting any new units like a psychic Helbrute/Dreadnought, maybe psychic Cultists/Acolytes, and other stuff that can be easily converted from existing kits, but fingers crossed, Tzeentch might have something planned for us!

Thousand Sons

Well...remember my New Year Resolution about picking up and building a new Thousand Sons army?

That...came quicker than expected.

Warhammer Community has just posted the new reveal for new armies, and the Thousand Sons are one of them. That was...fast.

Yay. I don't know if I should be happy. I mean, I am happy, but I was hoping the Sisters of Battle get their codex first and their plastic models. I feel very, very sorry for them, to the point I'm like, screw my armies, let the Sisters get their stuff. Sigh.

I'm also hoping that we'll have Traitor Imperial Guard eventually in the same way that Genestealer Cults can take an Astra Militarum Detachment. I was hoping that Thousand Sons or Heretic Astartes can take an Astra Militarum Detachment, but instead of Regiments we get the <TRAITORS AND HERETICS> or <RENEGADES AND HERETICS> Keyword, like Brood Brothers. This will solve the whole Traitor Imperial Guard problem we'll have and not force us to play the Renegades and Heretics list from Forge World (which is pretty lackluster, if you ask me).

We seem to be getting a few "new" units that are not exactly new, like the Tzaangor Shaman, Tzaangor Enlightened - all of which are already from Disciples of Tzeentch from last year in Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. So nope, nothing new. And we're also getting a Mutalith Vortex beast, which I'm so going to get for my Thousand Sons army. Well, I'll just wait for the codex before I decide what to buy, but it'll be interesting to build a Tzaangor army to supplement my Rubric Marines, Exalted Sorcerers and Scarab Occult Terminators.

I probably will have to wait a month or two before I can fully assemble the army because let's be honest, bills and student stuff comes first. I'll just buy the codex first and then slowly build my Thousand Sons army over months. Until summer. We'll see. The Sons of Magnus will rise once more!

Battle Report 21

Hello, everyone! Yesterday I managed to drop by Dreamers Vault and had a couple of games with my Imperial Guard against a Space Wolf list!

First Game

The first game was Dominate and Destroy, an Eternal War mission. I used my standard Imperial Guard list, which was my usual Spearhead Detachment with a Tank Commander (Leman Russ Executioner with lascannon and plasma cannon sponsons), a second Leman Russ Executioner, a Leman Russ Annihilator and 2 Wyverns, my Kamikaze Vanguard Detachment with 2 Tempestors Prime, 2 plasma Tempestus command squads, 1 Tech-priest Enginseer, 1 Valkyrie, and a Supreme Command Detachment with my Company Commander and his Kurov's Aquila and Grand Strategist Warlord Trait, 2 Primaris Psykers, 1 plasma command squad and 1 Shadowsword. Against them stood the Space Wolves and an allied Imperial Knight (Knight Paladin with twin Icarus autocannons). Uh, if I recall, this Space Wolf list brought a single Vanguard Detachment with Bjorn Fell-hand, a Venerable Dreadnought with a shield and frost-axe, a Murderfang, 10 Blood Claws, 2 squads of Longfangs, each with a Wolfguard Terminator with stormshield - 1 had lascannons, the other had plasma cannons, and Wolf Guard Terminators. Wow, so scary.

Anyway, Dominate and Destroy meant we had to capture as many objectives to gain points, while destroying an enemy unit also netted us another point. Yay. We rolled off and my opponent started first. Well, I'm playing Imperial Guard, of course he'll start first. I failed to seize the iniative and so my opponent went first.

In the first turn, he moved and advanced his Venerable Dreadnought, Murderfang and Blood Claws, then fired everything he had with his Long Fangs at my...Valkyrie, of all things. Probably wanted to kill my Valkyrie at all cost. Well, all the plasma cannon shots and lascannon shots managed to bring my poor Valkyrie down and net him both First Blood and the destroy objective. None of my dudes died in the crash, surprisingly enough (I had 2 Primaris Psykers, my Company Commander and the plasma command squad in it). The Terminators Deep Struck in my backfield and charged my Shadowsword, eating a few shots in overwatch and losing a few Terminators. The Volcano cannon actually killed 1 or 2, and the twin heavy bolters killed another. The remaining two along with the Sergeant charged in and hammered my poor super-heavy tank, dealing 3 wounds to him. Unfortunately, with WS 5+, I failed to do much with the Adamantium Tracks, and the Terminators made their saves against those that did hit. Oh, and my opponent spent a command point to re-roll the Terminators' charge against my Shadowsword. During this turn, my opponent had 3 victory points, since he was in control of 1 objective.

During my turn, I repaired all 3 wounds on my Shadowsword with my Tech-priest Enginseer, moved my Primaris Psykers, Company Commander and plasma squad toward the Terminators, while Deep Striking my Kamikaze Stormtroopers right in the enemy's backfield to capture one objective and shoot the lascannon Long Fangs. Thanks to the Wolf Guard Terminator attached to the Long Fangs squad (I didn't know Long Fangs could take a single Wolf Guard Terminator), he tanked the first 8 shots from my first plasma Kamikaze command squad before dying with a single roll of 2 (he had a 3++ invulnerable save with his storm shield). The second plasma Kamikaze squad wiped out the lascannon squad, netting me one point. Oh, and my Primaris Psykers used smite to kill 1 Terminator with mortal wounds, while the Shadowsword killed another with his twin heavy bolters while left the Sergeant Terminator with just 1 wound. He fired and did 10 wounds to the Imperial Knight, who used the Rotate Ion Shields Stratagem and tanked a few volcano cannon shots. Ouch. The Wyverns fired and decimated the Blood Claws, killing at least 6 of them. The Leman Russ Executioner tanks fired and put a few wounds on the Dreadnoughts, I think the Murderfang had 2 left and the other one had 4, tanking the plasma shots with his invulnerable saves. The Leman Russ Annihilator then fired and took another 4 wounds off the Knight, leaving him with just 10 wounds. Meanwhile my Primaris Psykers, Company Commander and plasma command squad charged the Terminator to help my Shadowsword. Funnily enough, my opponent used the Counter-Offensive Stratagem and had his Terminator Sergeant kill 2 plasma guys after my first Primaris Psyker failed to do anything. In fact, both my Primaris Psykers only landed 1 hit each, fluffing 2 of their strikes despite having WS 3+. And the Terminator made his saves. It was my Company Commander with his chainsword that dealt the killing blow, landing 4 attacks and wounding him 4 times. And the Terminator Sergeant failed just 1 save, and died. The Blood Claws then failed their morale and got wiped out. All of them fled like the cowards they were.

Thanks to me capturing 4 objectives and killing at least 3 units, I pulled ahead to 7 victory points to my opponent's 3.

The 2nd turn continued with my opponent trying to wound my tanks with the plasma cannons, failing his charge with the Murderfang and not doing much with his Knight after his degrading to the 2nd tier. Bjorn, on the other hand, and the other Wolf Guard Terminator in the remaining Long Fang squad killed both my plasma Tempestus command squads, especially when Bjorn charging in and killing the survivors in combat. That granted my opponent another 2 victory points, and he now had 5. I then put a few more wounds on the Knight, and thanks to his Rotate Ion Shields, he survived with just 2 wounds. On the other hand, I destroyed both Dreadnoughts - the Murderfang and the Venerable - with my Leman Russ tanks while my Tech-priest Enginseer worked overtime to repair my wounded Tank Commander. One Tempestor Prime stayed on the enemy objective while the other ran away, hopefully to capture another objective. My Wyverns also wiped out the 2nd Long Fang squad, the Terminator guy dying along with the plasma cannon wielders. My opponent now only had 2 models on the table, literally, and I pulled ahead with another 3 victory points thanks to holding all my objectives in my deployment zone and killing about 3 units. So 6, and 13 in total.

Bjorn then shot one Tempestor Prime to death while killing the other in melee. The Knight, with only 2 wounds left, lumbered toward my Wyverns but missed all his shots due to firing on BS 5+. My opponent now had 6 points since Bjorn was camping on the Objective he snatched from my dead Tempestor Prime. I then blew up the Knight with my Shadowsword, and gained another 4 victory points, jumping up to 17. Bjorn then slowly moved toward me, being the last and only model left on the table, but my Shadowsword blew him up with his Volcano cannon on that last turn, allowing me to table my opponent, gaining Slay the Warlord and another 3 victory points for dominating the objectives, bringing me up to 22 victory points to my opponent's 6.

Ouch. Oh well. We decided to try again.

Second Game

This time, we decided not to use super-heavies. My opponent felt that the Knight wasn't helping much, so he took out the Knight and swapped him for new units. This time, he opted to go for Bjorn, the Murderfang, the Venerable Dreadnought, the same Wolf Guard Terminators and 2 Long Fang squads with their lascannons and plasma cannons, 10 Blood Claws, but this time he included a bunch of Wulfen, Lukas the Trickster, Lorgar with the Wolf Guard Terminators, and that's about it.

Since I was asked to take out my Shadowsword, I replaced my super-heavy tank with lots of infantry. I continued to use my Spearhead Detachment with a Tank Commander (Leman Russ Executioner with lascannon and plasma cannon sponsons), a second Leman Russ Executioner, a Leman Russ Annihilator and 2 Wyverns, but I attached a Kamikaze Battalion Detachment to it, using 2 Tempestors Prime, 2 plasma Tempestus command squads, 10 Kasrkins, 2 squads of Kasrkins/ Kamikaze Troopers with 2 hot-shot volley guns, and a Valkyrie. Rounding them out was an infantry Battalion Detachment with 2 Company Commanders, 2 Primaris Psykers (1 of them in the Kamikaze Battalion and 1 of them here since I can only have 3 HQ at most in a Battalion Detachment), 2 plasma command squads, 1 Ministorum Priest (because why the hell not?) and 3 infantry platoons with plasma guns.

After the first game where my opponent Deep Struck his Wolf Guard Terminators right in my backfield to charge my Shadowsword, I made to spread out my tanks and bubble-wrap them with infantry to ensure there was no space for the Terminators to deep strike into my deployment zone. Yeah! And it worked!

Anyway, I actually seized the Initiative this time, but I let my opponent go first. After the crushing defeat and tabling last game, I felt that it was more prudent to give him the advantage. We were here to have fun, not to be competitive, after all.

This time it was some frontline thing, the Eternal War mission with 4 objectives - 2 in the no man's land and 1 in each player's deployment zone. Capturing the objective in the opponent's deployment zone netted 4 victory points, the one in my own deployment zone would give me 1, and the ones in the no-man's land gave 2 each.

Anyway, I can't remember what happened, but my opponent moved and advanced his 2 Dreadnoughts, Wulfen and Blood Claws. He failed the Wulfen's charge toward my infantry squad (actually, he didn't charge so I didn't bother with overwatch, he only charged after the thing was over and no harm done). The lascannon Long Fangs were the only ones able to reach my tanks, and they did about 6 damage to my Tank Commander. The plasma cannons Long Fangs wiped out the whole infantry squad in front of my Tank Commander, earning my opponent First Blood, and the Wulfen fired their grenade thing, and their BS 5+ took a -1 penalty because they advanced, and only one Guardsman died. I don't remember them doing any more damage. When he realized that he couldn't Deep Strike his Terminators anywhere in my deployment zone, my opponent decided to hold them back for another turn.

During my turn, I disembarked my Primaris Psykers from my now-hovering Valkyrie and had them move forward to Smite the Wulfen. The Valkyrie shot the Murderfang and did some damage to it with his lascannon, I think about 4 or 5. My Stormtroopers Deep Struck all over the place, with me deciding against holding them in reserve like my opponent did with his Terminators. The 1st Tempestor Prime and 2 plasma Tempestus command squads ended up on the right of the Long Fangs while the 10 Kasrkins and 2 hot-shot volley gun squads plus 2nd Tempestor Prime Deep Struck right behind Lukas the Trickster (and Blood Claws). My Valkyrie and Wyverns wiped out all the Wulfens with their heavy bolters, multiple rocket pods and Stormshard mortars - those guys are so tough! Actually, one guy survived, and the infantry squad right in front of them fired...or to be exact, the plasma gunner in that infantry squad fired his overcharged plasma gun and killed the Wulfen before the others could fire their lasguns. My Kasrkins received First Rank, Fire! Second Rank, Fire! and fired 18 hot-shot lasgun shots into Lukas...and succeeded in killing him. I failed to kill the Murderfang or the Venerable Dreadnought, leaving one of them (the Murderfang, I believe) with 2 wounds and the other with 4. The Venerable Dreadnought was tanking all the plasma shots from my Leman Russ Executioner with his 3++ invulnerable save. Ugh. On the other hand, my Kamikaze Troopers with plasma lit up the Long Fangs again. The first squad killed the Wolf Guard Terminator who tanked all the plasma shots, and the second squad wiped out the lascannon dudes, leaving just the Sergeant with the plasma gun. Business as usual. I had used Jury Rigged on my Tank Commander, and he used his lascannon to fire on the plasma Long Fangs, killing one of them. My Leman Russ Annihilator also fired on them and killed another 2, leaving only 2 guys left. The guys with the hot-shot volley gun fired on the Blood Claws and killed a couple, but there were still quite a few of them left.

During my opponent's next turn, he finally Deep Struck his Terminators and Lorgar right in front of my Tank Commander. He also moved his Blood Claws and 2-wound Venerable Dreadnought back while his Murderfang moved toward my 2 Primaris Psykers. Bjorn also moved toward my Tempestus command squads. He then charged and had to spend a Command Point to reroll his charge for the Terminators into my Tank Commander, and despite me using Defensive Gunners, I only did about 2 or 4 damage to Lorgar before my Leman Russ tank was torn apart by raging Terminators. Uh oh. The Murderfang also came in, fired and wounded my first Primaris Psyker with his storm bolter and heavy flamer before he charged and tore my first Primaris Psyker apart in combat before consolidating into the second, while the Blood Claws fired their boltguns and killed at least 5 Kasrkins before killing another 4 in combat. The Sergeant lived to fight back, but there was no way he could survive morale, so he fled after ineffectively slashing at the Blood Claws. At the other side of my opponent's deployment zone, his Sergeant fired his plasma gun, as did the 2nd Long Fangs with their plasma cannons, and they killed one Tempestus Command squad while killing 2 in the 2nd squad. Bjorn advanced on them, but for some reason didn't kill him?

It didn't matter. The game was mine.

My Primaris Psyker used Smite to kill the Murderfang while my Valkyrie killed the Venerable Dreadnought with his lascannon. He used his heavy bolters and multiple rocket pods, as did my remaining Leman Russ Executioner, to fire into the Terminators and I killed a few of them, thankfully. My other infantry squad moved forward to back up my other infantry squad who was bubble-wrapping my Leman Russ tank before, and both squads fired several more times to wipe out the Terminators. Thanks to my nearby Company Commander, 1 of them had First Rank, Fire! Second Rank, Fire! But Lorgar was still alive. Meanwhile, my Wyverns killed both Long Fang squads, or to be precise, killed the sergeant with the plasma gun, and then the 2 guys with the plasma cannons. My Leman Russ Annihilator then fired his lascannons and destroyed Bjorn the Fell-Handed (who died for the second time that day). At this point, my opponent only had Lorgar left. That was because my Kamikaze Troopers had fired their hot-shot volley guns and completely annihilated the wounded Blood Claws.

Oh...yeah. At that point of time, my opponent only had Lorgar left. Just one model. Deja vu?

Lorgar did his one last stand by charging into my infantry squad and killing half of them in combat. Ouch. At that point, that was all he could do, really. My unwounded infantry squad continued moving toward him and my Company Commander toward them for order range while the half-man squad, who somehow survived morale, fell back and ran away. Meanwhile my Valkyrie boosted and disembarked my Warlord Company Commander and his 2 plasma command squads onto the objective in the no-man's land. My remaining Tempestus command squad with 2 fellas left moved and advanced toward the 2nd objective in the no-man's land. My 2 Kamikaze Trooper squads with hot-shot volley guns also moved and advanced toward the objective in my opponent's deployment zone.

During shooting phase, I ordered both the command squad and the 2 Kamikaze Trooper squads to Move, Move, Move! - basically the move and advance order - and they moved into their objectives, as did my 2 plasma command squads. In other words, I had all 4 objectives under my control. My Leman Russ Annihilator did the coup de grace and fired his lascannons at Lorgar, and annihilated him. Muahahaha.

End of the game - I had Linebreaker, Slay the Warlord and 4 objectives - 1+1+1+2+2+4 = 11 Victory Points in total. Compare that to my opponent's 1.

Does anyone have any advice for my Space Wolves friend? What he should have done better, or what units he should have used? Thunderwolf Calvary instead? Less Dreadnoughts? Ditch the Blood Claws? Thanks.

Tzeentch

Warhammer Community has posted on Tzeentch today!

Okay, that looks positively creepy. Oh well.

Hmm, this looks really cool. And see the Scarab Occult Terminators and the Tzaangors at the back? Yeah. Thousand Sons play with Horrors really well.

Honestly, despite what the article says, this is almost useless and impractical. Too unreliable. Statistically wise, it's not going to do anything, especially against Guardsmen. Discarding the highest result? Probably we'll have rolls of 3 and 4, discarding 4, so this Locus is completely useless against vehicles, Imperial Guardsmen and any unit that has a WS 4+. Unless we get really lucky with our rolls and roll 5s and 6s or 2 6s all the time, I don't see how this is useful at all. Maybe it would be more useful if we discard the lowest result because most of the time, our enemies will be using WS 4+ or WS 3+ units, so that lower roll of 1 or 2 or even 3 will be pretty pointless.

Might work against melee orientated armies such as Blood Angels, Khorne and basically Marines, Orks and whoever with WS 3+, but since you have a 33.333% of getting 1s and 2s, and you'll be discarding the highest result...yeah. Nope.

What a pity.

On the other hand, Gaze of Fate seems like an awesome psychic power. Generating free re-rolls so that we don't have to spend Command Points on re-rolls? Sign me up. That sounds an awesome psychic power. I hope the Warp Charge isn't too expensive, though...if it costs 7 or 8, that will be hard to pull off. Then again, there's another awesome Tzeentch Stratagem we can use!

Oh boy. This is pretty awesome. I wonder if Thousand Sons will get something similar to this. It will help with the Sorcerers and Exalted Sorcerers.

And we also have quite the useful psychic power! Flickering Flame is back, and it's much better than ever!

Remember those laughable Strength 3 Flickering Flames yoour Pink Horrors have? Now they wound Marines, Plague Marines and Toughness 4 and 5 dudes on 4+ instead of 3+. Or you can pick a Flamer or Exalted Flamer and they'll be wounding lots of stuff on 2+s. Awesome!

Oh, and welcome back, Impossible Robe.

I remember this. If I'm not mistaken, the invulnerable save goes up to 3++ because of Ephemeral Form. And now it's back. Not bad. But I think there might be more fun relics for Tzeentch...that said, having a 3++ invulnerable save for your Lord of Change or Herald might make them pretty durable. Not worth it on a Herald, though, if you ask me, but totally worth it on your Lord of Change.

Well, while some stuff seems promising, the main Locus seems pretty bad, but I'll keep my eye out on other stuff. I can't wait to see if we get new stuff, and if some of these Tzeentch Daemons and psychic powers get ported over to the Thousand Sons codex. It would be fun!

Happy New Year

Happy New Year, everyone!

I have no idea what's going to happen this year. I do know for sure that my spring semester will be the busiest of semesters I have ever been through, so it might be difficult for me to keep up with my hobby.

So what do I plan to do for 2018? First, build my Thanatar and 2 Castellax robots (waiting for Games Workshop to deliver my superglue).

Second, complete my Imperial Guard/Astra Militarum Brigade, which only needs 2 Armored Sentinels and probably a Tempestor Prime and another Tempestus command squad with 4 plasma guns. Then I can play a "friendlier" game against the kids and other people without using my Shadowsword or any super-heavies. Maybe get a couple of Assassins for maximum carnage. Already have an Eversor and a Culexus being shipped to me.

Third, paint my tanks, Valkyrie, Sentinels and infantry.

Fourth, start a Thousand Sons army once the codex is released. Probably after summer. We'll see.

Anyway, Happy New Year!
