Oh, and for some reason Militarum Tempestus have shotguns in their box. So I have 4 shotguns now. Maybe I'll buy a Start Collecting! Astra Militarum set and kitbash them into veterans with shotguns. I also have 3 spare meltaguns so that's the 3 special weapons, and I need 2 flamers for my Catachan-styled regiment anyway, so I'll just replace them with a heavy weapons team that comes with the box. Lascannons are my thing. Then I'll kitbash the Leman Russ tank into a Leman Russ Annihilator. Speaking of which, the cost of the Leman Russ Annihilator still hasn't changed for the Forge World index, right? So its base cost is still 132 points as opposed as to the current 122 points. Ugh. Well, at least it now gets Grinding Advance and can shoot its twin lascannon twice. I'll kitbash it for fun.
But the next thing I'm getting is a Leman Russ Executioner tank. After the 1,000-point tournament last Saturday, I'm sold on the plasma. I'm getting nothing but plasma! I don't care if I have to buy another tank! I will be a plasma guy! The forge world Draconis IV produces tons of plasma weapons anyway, so it's fluffy. Draconis IV is supposed to a forge world that manufactures and ships out one of the most volumes of Leman Russ Executioners.
That will pair very well with my Kamikaze Troopers. I did some kitbashing and I have 2 Tempestor Primes with the Tempestus Command Rod, but I glued boltguns to their hips so that they can have the option to use the boltgun instead of the rod. Furtnermore, I have 2 Tempestus command squads, 4 with plasma guns. Yeah, I kitbashed 2 plasmagunners in addition to the 2 that come with the box. I also built 2 guys with hot-shot volley guns, but that leaves 2 without their arms, weapons and backpacks. I'm still waiting for Bits and Kits UK to ship my hot-shot volley guns to me. It'll probably take another week or 2 before they arrive, but thankfully I don't need the hot-shot volley guns yet. And finally I have another Commissar, this time with a plasma pistol.
I built my Taurox Prime with the Taurox gatling cannon and hot-shot volley guns, as well as a stormbolter. So yay. Dakka Taurox Prime. I kitbashed the missile launcher and transformed it into a Stormspear rocket pod, which I can now mount on my Imperial Knights. That solves me the problem of proxying a cardboard piece or the Punisher gatling cannon as the Stormspear rocket pod whenever I need one.
Anyway, with the majority of my troops done, and my Leman Russ Executioner incoming, this is what my list looks like:

Yeah. I cchanged everything to be Cadian. I thought that would fit my list better than Vostroyans. The thing is that the Cadian Stratagem might actually fit my list a lot better. I move my Valkyrie up to within 18" of the enemy, drop off my 2 plasma command squads and 1 Company Commander, and then move them 6" to get within 12" rapid-fire range. He'll order them to Take Aim! and boom! 16 supercharged Strength 8 AP -3 plasma shots right into whatever target I need dead. For example, my opponent's Stormsurge. Once I get even one wound on him, I'll use the Cadian Stratagem Overlapping Fields of Fire to fire everything I have on him - my Shadowsword will be hitting him on BS 2+, essentially, and all my Leman Russ Executioner tanks will be safe from supercharging their plasma if they can reach.
It doesn't matter if my plasma command squads die. They're there to hit, like suicide squads. Hence Kamikaze Troopers. Heh. They literally kamikaze in on the enemy, deal massive damage with surgical strikes before they die. If my enemy ignores them in favor of the tanks and Shadowsword, then I'll just have them stand still and Take Aim! at all the backline units unless I need to run them to grab objectives (that's what my Stormtroopers are there for, though).
I can't wait! As for my special weapons team, I'll just hold them back to bubblewrap my tanks, and Take Aim! will allow them to re-roll hits as long as they stay still. If I can't get my 2nd Leman Russ Executioner for some reason, then I'll just replace him with the Leman Russ main battle tank with 3 heavy bolters and an Officer of the Fleet. But let's hope we get him! I had so much fun hurling plasma all over my opponents on Saturday and I can't wait to pull that off again!
But yeah, my Draconian regiment, based on Cadians, look like a list that relies heavily on plasma. Just like my fluff! All right! One of these days I'll make sure to write about them. Elite Kamikaze Troopers, plasma-armed Guardsmen riding in Valkyries and armored companies where more than half of their number comprised of Leman Russ Executioner tanks with plasma cannons! And then we have armor infantry protecting the tanks with plasma weapons. What a way to go!
On the other hand, I feel like improving my list with this:

That means I'll have to get a heavy weapons squad. Oh well...we'll see. But that does look pretty appealing, yes. For one thing, the Cadian doctrine actually benefits heavy weapon teams such as lascannons more than plasma squads. For another, well, you can see why. My Kamikaze Troopers are in their own detachment, which means they benefit from their own Stormtrooper Regimental Doctrine! Woohoo! With that many lascannons at the backfield, all benefiting from Take Aim! and my Kamikaze Troopers jumping in and scoring extra shots on 6s, which is incredibly easy to get since they get Deep Strike 9" away from the enemy, and half range is 12"!

That looks good to me, I guess. With this I'll get a Veteran squad along with extra flamers, but most likely they will be in the Catachan regiment. We'll see! I'll think about that tomorrow. For now, this is a tentative list I'm thinking of.

No Shadowsword here, which makes me sad, but we can't have everything in life, can we? Ah, speaking of which, a Tank Commander can't take the Leman Russ Annihilator, right? Since there is no Tank Commander in the Index, and the Codex makes no mention of the Annihilator twin lascannons. Oh well.

That's what happens if I really want to take the Shadowsword. Well, this looks cool. I can't wait to build this list. Eventually.
What shotgun comes in the Scion box? The hit shot Volly Guns?
ReplyDeleteTurns out that they're sheathed hot-shot lasguns. Stupid of me. Sorry for the mistake. I ended up kitbashing my own shotguns by gluing lasguns to flamers.
