The Orks' point of view

And so my friend wrote his own side of his story, from the perspective of the Orks!

“ ‘Ey Boss ya got a minute?” Big Mek Wheelcutta’s grot oiler, Nuthead called to his master, who was currently fixing a couple of bolts to a hastily cobbled together rifle.
“Wut iz it ya little snot?” Wheelcutta replied without looking up from his work, “Did Uggax drive ahead again?” Nuthead looked up nervously setting down his pair of ocular-squigs he was using to watch the speedboss face off against the noble imperial watchdogs. “Yea and he got krumped right good, da ‘uman stompas slagged ‘is trike with those big gra-vi-ty kannon they gots.” Wheelcutta angrily kicked the gun-stand holding his rifle over, “DAT ZOGGIN GROT-BRAIN! Iz tolds ‘im ta watch THE ZOGGIN TRIKES PAINT! ‘An what does he do, he gets it right scratched.”
“Oh he got it a bit more than scratched Boss.” Nuthead replied, a mischievous smile starting to snake it’s way across his face. “Lookz more like it’s been completely scrapped up In a ball; ya think Uggax made it?” Wheelcutta slowly collected the rifle off the ground and hefted it over his great green shoulder. “Oh he better not ‘ave, cuz I’m gonna give ‘Im won of deez” Before Nuthead had any time to react, Wheelcutta flicked a red switch upon his kustom weapon and took careful aim at Nuthead; the unfortunate grot let out a squeal of terror as the weapon started to buzz with a odd blue and white energy. The Big Mek pulled a scrappy trigger, and a great blast echoed throughout the workshop. Nuthead screamed as a bolt of energy pulsed through him, searing pain engulfed his form and soon the Grot was no more. Wheelcutta let out a satisfied grunt and turned to leave his shop, he knew that this was only the beginning of the fight and that Uggax wouldn’t back out so early.

Kazan

So I wrote a short story for the battle report for the Esacalation League. Heh. Thought you guys might be interested. Anyway, here it is:

Bondsman Tanaka surveyed the ruins before him. Taking a deep breath, he whispered a brief prayer to soothe the machine spirit of his steed, Kazan. The Armiger-class Knight responded to his deft touches, his fingers clenching in the haptic gloves as he leaned back in the Helm Mechanicum. There no whispers as there would be in a fully fledged Throne Mechanicum. Tanaka had heard his superior, the higher ranked Bushi who piloted the venerable Questoris Knights and even ths Dominus Chassis, speak much about the "ghosts" lurking in their Throne Mechanicum. He wondered if he would ever ascend to such exalted ranks. "WAAAGH!" The howls of the greenskins drew his attention back to the present. The Reaper chain-glaive whirred in response to his thoughts as he triggered a stud in his haptic gloves. On the right of the Armiger Warglaive, the thermal spear glowed as exotic energies flowed from the Armiger-class plasma reactor and into the melta weapon. He took aim at the lead vehicle - a Squigbuggy, from the looks of it, and squeezed the trigger. An incadescent beam of molten energy lanced out, striking the side of the vehicle. Tanaka cursed when he saw it was only a glancing blow. The Orks riding on the buggy bellowed both in triumph and fury, partially relieved that their vehicle hadn't been melted to slag. "Poor shooting, Tanaka." Suzuki chuckled. Piloting the second Armiger Warglaive of the Knight Lance sent to deal with a roving patrol of Orks, his steed, the Hebi strode forward confidently. "I'll show you how it's done." While the Hebi sprinted toward the Squigbuggy, Suzuki confidently piloting his machine, Tanaka turned his attention to a flanking mob of warbikers. The Orks had gathered in something Imperial intelligence termed Speed Freeks Speed Mob. In other words, a bunch of greenskins riding warbikes and buggies. Howling excitedly, they waved crude cleavers and choppas, letting off a burst of dakka that sprinkled ineffectively against Kazan's ion shield.

Not one to stray from a fight, Tanaka pulled Kazan to a gentle lope, meeting the charging warbikers. A single burst from the carapace meltagun melted one of the Warbikers to slag, destroying the bike and disintegrating the shrieking greenskin. The rest scattered, evading a short burst from the Kazan's thermal spear. Hooting joyfully, they swiveled about and converged upon the walker, swinging their cleavers and scoring dents. Tanaka winced when damage reports manifested on the green-tinted holo-picts in his Helm Mechanicum. Spinning Kazan about, he swung his reaper chain-cleaver and caught one of the bikers in a devastating blow. Crude metal and green flesh split under the glowing power field of the deadly weapon, red blood spreading about in a mist as the Ork simply ceased to exist. Crushing the broken bike under the clawed foot of the Armiger, Tanaka then reached out with his haptic glove. Responding to his will, the reaper chain-cleaver lashed out to slice a snarling Ork who thought it had the better of his foe, cutting it apart before it could swing its choppa. Then Tanaka kicked out at the final biker, knocking its rider off its mount and sending it crashing onto the ground with a roar. The Ork tried to rise, spluttering in an undignified manner, before it was obliterated by the full weight of Kazan stomping on it. It was no Titanic Feet, but even a resilient Ork couldn't survive getting stomped on by an Armiger class Knight. Raising his head to study the visual auspex, Tanaka saw that Kanda had blown the Warboss on a Wartike clear with a focused fire of graviton pulses. His Armiger Knight Moriax had been outfitted with esoteric technology that was not usually seen on most Armiger class Knights. Thanks to House Yato's links with the Forge World of Draconis IV, though, the great Knight House had an abundant supply of the Moirax variants.
The triumph was short-lived, however, for Kanda's Knight Moirax was sent staggering by the cannons of an approaching boosta-blasta. A second squadron of Warbikers, taking advantage of the reeling walker, charged in with gleeful hoots and whoops, their cleavers slashing chunks of adamantine armor out of the Armiger Knight. To Tanaka's horror, Kanda's machine was laid low with a particular brutal blow from the nob, who wielded a particularly nasty cleaver that whirred and thrummed. Powered by a combination of primitive technology and wild belief in their foul xenos gods, the greenskin swung like a creature possessed, tearing off the Knight Moirax's leg at the knee and sending Kanda's steed toppling.

"Suzuki!" Tanaka shouted, trying to get the second member of his lance to back him up as he charged toward the surviving warbikers. The boosta-blasta's deadly cannon boomed once more, but he somehow deflected it with a deft adjustment of his ion shield. Despite the hasty reflex, Kazan shuddered from the impact. Gleeful, the Warbikers pounced to capitalize. Tanaka cursed and looked around for his lance mate, only to see a smoldering wreck. Suzuki's Hebi had been laid low while entangled with another squad of Warbikers. He wasn't sure if the pilot was still alive, but he wouldn't be if he didn't eliminate the threat before him. With a squeeze of his fingers, he triggered the thermal spear. The Warbikers skillfully spread out once more, dodging the glowing beam of molten energy with relish, but the boosta-blasta was not so lucky. Tanaka caught a glimpse of the greenskin driver ogling at the incadescent lance, pulling hard on the steering wheel. The ungainly vehicle swerved, but not in time to avoid the melta beam. An explosion engulfed the ramshackle buggy, the wreck consumed by a colossal conflagration. Uncaring of the fate of their ally, the Warbikers zoomed in on the limping Armiger. Tanaka gritted his teeth and braced himself for the impact. He swung Kazan's Reaper Chain-cleaver and felt a sense of satisfaction when he obliterated one of the riders. However, the nob struck out and tore through the cabling in the Armiger's knees, almost sending the machine falling over.

They know how to fight against Knights, Tanaka thought to himself. They must have learned somehow. The Orks had always been a tenacious breed, created solely for combat. They thrived on it, even. Well, not anymore. Tanaka had sworn an oath to his Daimyo to see the filthy species exterminated from the galaxy. These foul creatures would rue the day they invaded the Imperium. Swiveling the meltagun atop the carapace of his Knight, Tanaka blew one of the Warbikers to bits, melting both rider and mount to slag. Limping after the nob, who had circled about to meet Kazan in combat once again, he swung his Reaper chain-cleaver just as the nob swung its big choppa. Both weapons collided explosively, sparks flying between them. The nob laughed boisterously, enjoying the contest of strength against the man in a metal suit. Tanaka felt no such joy, but he felt zealous conviction. Faith in humanity's right to rule the galaxy. With contempt, he had his Armiger kick out and totalled the bike under the nob. The greenskin, taken by surprise, rolled off the ground and brought its weapon up with a snarl. There was a shuddering screech as it slashed the thigh plating of Kazan. However, it was nothing more but a glancing blow. By the Emperor's fortune, the armor held - just barely. The plating buckled, but the whirring teeth of the choppa failed to sink in any further. The greenskin looked up at the towering Armiger Warglaive, its beady eyes widening as if it could sense the hatred from the pilot within. Then Tanaka swung Kazan's Reaper Chain-cleaver and took the nob's head off in a single blow.

Hobby stuff

I managed to assemble a second squad of Cataphractii Terminators with thunder hammers and storm shields. I had to make do with spare MKIII power armor thunder hammers because the Cataphractii Terminator special weapon upgrade set only came with 3, so I bought 2 MKIII power armor thunder hammers from somewhere else. Nonetheless, I paired them with the Imperial Fists Cataphractii Terminator storm shields that I was so fond of and yay! Now I have 10 Assault Terminators with thunder hammers and Imperial Fists storm shields! The Cataphractii version, no less!

Definitely can field a small Imperial Fists army for Horus Heresy now, using Pride of the Legion. The Terminators will be troops, plus the Contemptor Dreadnoughts, and...I think I'll just see what else I can add eventually. But yeah, Pride of the Legion - Templar Brethren! Otherwise I'll just use them for my Black Templars! They are Black Templars, after all.

I also painted a couple of models this morning. I painted my third Armiger Warglaive! Remember on Saturday, I mentioned that I was shifting toward a Knight Household with the Hounds of War Household Tradition alongside Glorified History? That was because I plan to get more Armigers. With the new Objective Secured ability (and counting as 5 models), Armigers are going to be very important in playing the mission. I'll need at least two more so that I can grab as many objectives as I can. Heh. So here is my third Armiger Warglaive, joining the ranks of my two others. I plan to get a third Knight Moirax eventually, but...as I said on Saturday, Forge World kind of screwed up my order and I'm still waiting on them to get back to me. Oh, well. Anyway...

In addition to my third Armiger Warglaive, I painted 2 Castellax battle-automata! This means I have a fully painted Legio Cybernetica army! I needed 2 more Castellax battle-automata to field a full primary detachment of Legio Cybernetica or Mechanicum forces with the Legio Cybernetica Rite of War. As veterans of the Horus Heresy will know, you need a minimum of 1 compulsory HQ and 2 compulsory Troops for a primary detachment - this is the old Force Organization Chart rules in 7th edition that is still being used for Horus Heresy. So Legio Cybernetica requirements are that you need to take a unit of minimum 2 Castellax battle-automata for compulsory Troops. So I needed 4. And now I have 4!

This is my entire Legio Cybernetica army now! It consists of an Archmagos Dominus, a Magos Dominus, a Tech-priest Auxilia with cortex controller and servo-automata (basically Cybernetica Datasmith), 2 units of 2 Castellax battle-automata - 2 with mauler bolt cannons, 2 with Darkfire cannons, 2 Vultarax strato-automata and 2 Thanatar siege-automata. I've included 4 Kastelan robots even though they are technically not part of the Horus Heresy (funnily they feature heavily in Rob Sanders's Horus Heresy novella, Cybernetica, though). Rounding out the Legio Cybernetica cohort are 2 Mechanicum Knights Moirax and a single Cerastus Knight Atrapos. It's truly meant to be a Mechanicum cohort, heh.

I will be bringing this Mechanicum Legio Cybernetica army for a Horus Heresy narrative event this Saturday! We'll see how it goes! Till then! Ave Omnissiah!

Oh, and I also added more paint to my Warlord Titan and touched up a little here and there. I found my Warlord Titan very plain, especially when I put him next to my Knights. So I decided to add a bit of red here and there to make him stand out as a centerpiece model when standing next to my Knight banners. To distinguish him - he's not a Knight, he's a Titan. So more colors, a more...vivid paint scheme, shall we say? I think I like him a lot better now. He looks much better than before...the last time, with just black and gold, he looked pretty plain. With the red, he looks much better.

Why red, you ask? Well...I'm a fan of Blackburn Rovers, and I love the color scheme of their away jersey, so I decided to go for black and red. Because...Blackburn Rovers. Yeah. Now you know why the Marshal of my Black Templars Crusade force is named Mowbray, eh?

Dreamers Escalation League

We have an Escalation League in Dreamers Vault today! Yay! The manager started it today, and 9 of us signed up. It was really fun! I think there was quite a variety - we had Necrons, Craftworld Aeldari, Adeptus Custodes, Knights (converted Ork Knights, I think, but using Imperial Knight rules - House Krast, in particular), Imperial Guard, Orks, Blood Angels and Thousand Sons. I was the second Knight player there, so that was...peculiar. I didn't think Knights would be popular, heh.

Anyway, I came late today because I was waiting for a delivery from Forge World - USPS told me the delivery time, so yay. I had a couple of Contemptor Dreadought arms for a friend, so I wanted to get hold of them and pass them to him today because I wouldn't be going to Dreamers next week (Horus Heresy stuff next Saturday!). To my horror, my Knight Moirax was missing. I'll have to contact Forge World and either ask them to send a Knight Moirax once it's restocked or request for a refund. I'm not sure how long they will take to respond, but generally from my experience they are pretty quick. Though they seem to be busy these days.

Fortunately, I was still able to get a Combat Patrol game today! Two of them, actually - one of them was for the Escalation League. I played against my friend who plays Orks. He brought that Army of Renown for Orks, something to do with SpeedFreakz? Speed Freeks Speed Mob, if I'm not mistaken. So a bunch of Ork bikers (2 squads of 4 Ork bikers), a Warboss on a wartrike, a Squigbuggy and a Boosta-Blasta if I remember correctly. We rolled off, I won the roll, but I let him go first. It's a Crusade game, and I didn't want to...uh, you know, be too competitive.

Oh, right. My list? Armigers. It's 500 points, so I brought 2 Armiger Warglaives and an Armiger Knight Moirax with graviton pulsars. I decided to switch things up and pair Glorified History with Hounds of War because I was planning to transit to a more Armiger-heavy list. It'll be useful for my Armigers to fall back and shoot.

The Orks rushed up the table, counting as making a normal move even though they advanced, and getting a 5++ invulnerable save when they advanced, which made them incredibly hard to kill. Fortunately, my Knights were far back, so I didn't suffer much. Instead, I wiped out a warbiker squad in combat with my Armiger Warglaive, and then proceeded to do 7 or so damage to the Warboss on a Wartrike with a meltagun. Unfortunately, my other Armiger Warglaive was unable to kill the second squad of warbikers, with me fluffing my rolls. The Knight Moirax also rolled double 1s for his 2D6 graviton pulsar shots, which made me have a sinking feeling in my stomach. Fortunately, the Knight Moirax survived a charge from the warboss on wartrike, and then using the Hounds of War to my advantage, I had him fall back and kill the warboss on wartrike with graviton pulsars. Yes!

However, my other Armiger Warglaive fell to the warbikers. Yikes. I managed to destroy the squigbuggy with my first Armiger Warglaive, though, his melta just burning through most of its health, and then finishing it off in combat with his reaper chain-cleaver. The warbikers survived more shots and charged my Knight Moirax, along with the boosta-blasta, and destroyed him in combat. Ouch. Oh, they did mortal wounds when they charged too. Even more ouch. I was barely hanging in there, but I finally destroyed the boosta-blasta with a melta gun, then charged in to lock the surviving warbikers in combat. We swung at each other for a couple of turns, and my Armiger Warglaive made a single clutch save - he needed a 5+ armor save and I got it - against a Damage 2 big choppa when he only had 2 wounds remaining and...he killed the Warbikers. I think on the very last turn. Phew.

Thanks to that, I managed to win the game. I think I had like 50 points to my opponent's 40 anyway, so I was somehow able to pull out on top. Phew. That came down to the wire. If my Armiger Warglaive failed that save and lost his last 2 wounds, my Knights would have been defeated in this game. Yikes. That was so clutch!

Also had a small combat patrol against Chaos Space Marines. To make up for the difference in firepower, I allowed him to summon every turn and didn't count reinforcement points. So he basically pulled a few hundred points of Daemons over the course of the game for free, making it an almost 800 or 900 point list against my 435 point Knight list. That was fine. By the end of the game, I killed his Dark Apostle, 5 Terminators, 2 squads of 5 Chaos Space Marines, 5 Raptors, about 10+ Bloodletters, 10 Flesh Hounds, Skulltaker and...yeah. I decided to surrender because there were way too many Daemons for me to deal with, and I only had a single Knight Moirax left after his Bloodletters ripped apart my poor Armiger Warglaives. But that's fine. As long as my opponent had fun, that was all that mattered to me. It was a casual game anyway, so whatever - I wanted him to win so that he would enjoy the game, even if we did it through unconventional means (summoning Daemons every turn without them costing reinforcement points).

Oh, and I bought the Cerastus Knights. Now I have 2 Cerastus Knight Castigators and 2 Cerastus Knight Acherons. I thought they would be useful so that I will have more Knight banners. Heh. We'll see what else I can do. Till then!

Dire Wolf Scout Titan!

We are getting a new Dire Wolf Scout Titan from Forge World for Adeptus Titanicus! YAY! You can arm him with either a carapace mounted volcano cannon or neutron laser, as well as torso mounted Ardex defensor mega-bolters.

Nice! The Dire Wolf looks a lot better than the Warhound, in my opinion. I was expecting, I dunno, a Rapier, but I guess this guy works too. He looks pretty cool to assemble and run around with my Knights. We'll see. Till then!

Seriously?

So Warhammer Community has seen fit to preview the contents of the first Warzone: Nachmund book: Vigilus Alone.

Oh, look! Abaddon is on the cover! You'd think this campaign book will be centered on Chaos, right? Well, not exactly.

Instead, we get an Army of Renown for a Phobos Army (or Vanguard Spearhead), datasheets for the new Captain in Gravis Armor and Primaris Ancient (I'm pretty sure they already have datasheets in the codex because of the Dark Imperium boxset, but I could be mistaken, but I guess they need to promote the new models), and a codex supplement for Order of the Bloody Rose. Adeptus Astartes and Adepta Sororitas already have their codexes, and they get more stuff. Whoo! Unfortunately for Chaos Space Marines, who are still stuck at one bloody wound, they don't get anything. No Army of Renown, no codex supplement like Hive Fleet Leviathan (which was awesome) or Cadia (which sucked - even though I tried my best to make it work during the Octarius Campaign), nothing. And I don't even play Chaos Space Marines. I actually feel sorry for the poor Heretic Astartes. They need help, and they need it soon.

Well, we all know they will be getting new models and a new codex. We already have the Eldritch Omens box previewed during Christmas, and Chaos will be getting a new Warpsmith, new Chosen and a bunch of new stuff, so yay (?). Just like with Hexfire, which saw the release of Thousand Sons and Grey Knights codexes alongside it, and Shadow Throne, which was supposed to be released alongside Adeptus Custodes and Genestealer Cultists codexes (they got delayed, unfortunately), I assume the Chaos Space Marines and Aeldari codexes will be released at the same time as Eldritch Omens. We just have to be patient. In fact, I bet the second Warzone Nachmund book, which will be released after Eldritch Omens and the Heretic Astartes and Aeldari codexes, will contain supplements and extra army stuff for Chaos armies.

However, I still don't think this is a good idea. The timing is screwed up. If you want to do this, you shouldn't be releasing Warzone Nachmund: Vigilus Alone first. You should probably do all the Chaos Space Marines (and Aeldari) releases first, and then have a campaign centered on them. I say this not only because I think Chaos Space Marines need their 2 wounds and help in the meta, but also as a campaign master. Okay, we get this campaign book with all the cool narrative, Crusade stuff and missions, but what's the bloody point when the Chaos Space Marine armies are currently unplayable!?

Are we supposed to watch them get their asses kicked every single time they play? Oh, cool! Look at the Phobos Vanguard Spearhead and the Order of the Bloody Rose! Nice Skitarii Veteran Cohort there. Grey Knights and their Dreadknights! And then the only Chaos forces who can put up a fight are Death Guard and Thousand Sons. Oh, I guess xenos are technically on the Chaos side, so the Orks, Tyranids and whatnot should be fine. World Eaters get crushed (a prevalent problem in my campaign). The main antagonists, the Black Legion themselves, get their asses kicked - especially with only one wound Marines and a vastly oudated codex. Even with summoning allowed in the Campaign, the poor Chaos and Chaos Daemon stuff get steamrolled. It'll be a one-sided campaign. What am I supposed to say? Gee, thanks for the shiny new Space Marine and Sisters stuff, let's continue kicking the Chaos guys while they're down!

No. This has to stop. I'm not much of a competitive player and while I do participate in tournaments, I kind of suck at them. I like runnng narrative events and conducting Crusade campaigns. But even I recognize the problem. You can throw away the competitive lists and try to be as fluffy and narrative as you like - hell, my Black Templars were fully Primaris for most of the campaign, running Repulsor Executioner tanks as opposed to, I dunno, 8 Terminators with storm shields in the middle of the table, Primaris Chaplain on bike and Helbrecht (and I didn't even bother with the Crusade relics or Relic Bearers in my campaign), and still they are a bit too...strong in what's meant to be a casual campaign. On the other end, Imperial Guard was like the whipping boys of the campaign except the few times the World Eaters played, and they were worse than the poor Guard.

Even if it's casual and narrative, it's currently not fun for the players who haven't had updated codexes. They did a great job for Hive Fleet Leviathan and made it competitive - the Tyranids player certainly had fun during the campaign I ran. Why can't we have more of that? Seriously, if you want to do stuff like this, you really need to sort out the timing of releases. Don't release a first book with Adeptus Astartes and Adepta Sororitas stuff before Chaos Space Marines get their codex, and have the antagonists hamstrung by an obselete codex and bad rules. Who's going to participate in the campaign? Other than World Eaters, Thousand Sons and Death Guard, I literally have no Chaos Space Marine players in the campaign. And I suspect Chaos can only play Thousand Sons and Death Guard if they want a chance even for a "casual" campaign. I don't think anyone wants to touch "regular" Chaos Space Marines right now, even though they (especially Black Legion) are supposed to be the main antagonists for this campaign!

Don't get me wrong, I love the Crusade campaigns, the lore and everything. Getting everyone to participate in them is fun...except for those whose armies are so terrible they get tabled in a couple of turns in an extremely one-sided manner - that is most certainly not fun. And this Warzone Nachmund: Vigilus Alone stuff is looking like it's going to turn into another one-sided affair for non Thousand Sons and non Death Guard Chaos players. Just...no, dudes. God-Emperor, just...for the love of Holy Terra, please sort this out. I don't know, maybe use some common sense instead of relying on marketing hype? Think about what's practical for players. Why release bonus army stuff for armies who already have a codex and continue to put off the army stuff for those without a codex? What kind of campaign am I supposed to conduct when one side has their arms tied behind their backs while the other side receives even more cool new tools to upgrade their armies?

Consider releasing the Chaos Space Marine codex and whatnot first before you launch the Warzone campaign books, that's all I'm saying. Please.

Adeptus Titanicus Terrain

I managed to get a bunch of Adeptus Titanicus terrain toooday! Originally I wanted to hold the last game for the Crusade campaign and wrap up the events on Gydisk Sigma, but unfortunately there was a Flames of War tournament today, so there was no space for us to play any Warhammer 40,000 games. A pity because Escalation is starting next week. It kind of sucks because stage 3 is at a limbo, but I'll put it on hold for now and figure something out in the future.

Though there was no space for Warhammer 40,000 games, we managed to squeeze into a table. Without much to do except slack around, I wandered around the shop and saw this. Civitas Imperialis Sector for Adeptus Titanicus. To my amazement, I saw that it cost only $25. No, seriously. A total of 16 sprues (8 big ones and 8 small ones) for Adeptus Titanicus terrain, and the whole box only cost $25. That's one hell of a deal! I was all for it. I think it's because it has been discontinued and they're clearing stock, but hell, I'll take it.

It took me a whole day, but I succeeded in assembling a bunch of terrain. At first I followed the instruction manual and did the simple ones, but then I saw the various shapes in the box art and I got bolder, experimenting with all sorts of patterns and shapes. As a result, you can see what I have right there. A lot of weird shapes and towers. So I now have very tall hab blocks where I can hide my Knights. The whole point of getting more terrain is to get stuff to block line of sight so that I don't have to worry about Titans destroying my Knights with volcano cannons. Line of sight matters, and Titans can't shoot what they can't see. With this many terrain, I should be able to avoid getting my Knights massacred. Or so I hope.

Anyway, till then!

Warhammer 40,000 Rumors from Chapter Master Valrak

I just thought you guys would be interested, and in case nobody wants to spend 10 minutes watching a video, I've decided to compile and summarize whatever I can from Chapter Master Valrak's video. Take note that these are rumors, so take them with a pinch of salt. They are not facts or confirmed until Games Workshop officially says so. Valrak trusts his sources, Alpharius and Omegon, but you don't have to. Whatever the case, don't go bombarding his channel demanding why he's wrong or why this codex hasn't come out yet, etc.

Rumors:

Tyranids
Tyranids codex might be coming out in March, after T'au, Aeldari and Chaos Space Marines in February. New plastic sculpts for Gaunts (?) and a range refresh in the works, apparently.

T'au
T'au might be getting a second wave...or more specifically, Kroot will be getting a plastic treatment with Krotox, Hounds and whatever. Possible they might get their own Mercenaries supplement like Farsight Enclaves is rumored to get. Yeah, there are rumors that Farsight Enclaves will be getting a separate codex supplement like Black Templars did after leaks revealed how little rules they had in the main codex. Keep in mind that this is speculation and there's no news or information regarding any Farsight Enclaves supplement in the works. Might disappoint us all by having the damned supplement be released inside a campaign book (Warzone Damocles, for example).

Cosairs and Lost and the Damned
Apparently Corsairs versus Cultists (new Lost and the Damned codex in the works, apparently) Kill Team box like for Octarius...to be announced soon. After Aeldari codex and Chaos Space Marines codex, which will be shortly after T'au. They might be released in late February or March, which might mean the Tyranids will be released in April and not March. This is why Valrak hates talking about timescales because all the delays and whatnot, and dates keep getting pushed back.

Imperial Guard (Astra Mili...what? You're in the Guard, son)
Imperial Guard (or Astra Militarum for those of you bluebloods) will be getting a new heavy tank called the Rogal Dorn, which is between the size of a Leman Russ and a Baneblade. Apparently meant to be the Imperial Guard's counterpart for the Repulsor or Repulsor Executioner because of the sheer number of guns packed into its chassis.

From an older video: apparently we might be getting plastic Death Riders and Kasrkins, and plastic Cadian Veterans.

As an aside: In a couple of newer Imperial Guard novels such as Steel Tread and Volpone Glory, the Guardsmen are said to have scout bikers or Rough Riders on bikers (Vulpa or something). Considering that the Primaris Outriders appeared in a Space Marine novel Fist of the Imperium, which was released before the models actually were announced in the Indomitus box set, it is possible that Guard might get new plastic Rough Riders on bikes similar to the Genestealer Cultists Jackals. Apparently they keep their laspistols, lasguns, shock lances and special weapons. Maybe after Leman Russ and Rogal Dorn tanks, we might be getting Jaghatai bikes for the Guard (no, I'm just pulling your leg).

World Eaters
World Eaters codex, along with Angron (as in, his own plastic model and 40K rules like Magnus and Mortarion), might be arriving at the end of this year.

Loyalist Primarch and 10th Edition
Lion El'Jonson might be the next Loyalist Primarch to wake up and be released when 10th edition hits (note that this is still very far away, probably a couple of years later, 2023 or 2024 by the earliest).

Squats (I kid you not - ask Valrak)
Squats might be getting a new codex. Not just a Kill Team but an actual codex that includes a vehicle. A Land Train (?) might be getting a model, though it'll probably be updated and modernized and such.

Horus Heresy
He mentioned that the Horus Heresy boxset costs 180 British Pounds, but that's about it, and he has nothing, no other news on the Horus Heresy except that he hopes it'll be announced in Las Vegas Open or Adepticon. I wouldn't hold my breath because it was supposed to be announced at Christmas and we all know how that went down, but...well, let's all pray to the Emperor.

In any event, go subscribe to Valrak's Youtube Channel if you want, and watch his videos for more details. Enough waffling from me, and...bye bye!

Third Phase of Gydisk Sigma Campaign

The third phase of the Gydisk Sigma campaign has officially begun! We are moving from Strike Force games to Onslaught, which means Power level 150 for each player! This will be one hell of a mess, or so I hope.

Currently, the Imperium holds Gydisk Sigma. The Tyranids have been slaughtered, their hordes going dormant (well, because our only Tyranids player was out of town today) after the brutal massacre last campaign. The Adeptus Mechanicus unHoly Convocation under Magos Cecile has gone rogue after experimenting on Tyranids, turning to Chaos and heretek. Turning his back on the Imperum and on holy Mars, Magos Cecile led his Skitarii and combat-servitor forces on a daring raid against the belegauered imperial forces in the hive city of Gaia. Faced with betrayal that could overturn the already precarious predicament that the imperal defenders were currently embroiled in, Marshal Mowbray led his Black Templars Crusade - the Gydisk Crusade - on a counterattack to take the hive city back from the treacherous Dark Mechanicum forces before they could unleash mutant horrors and Tyranid gene-spliced cyborg servitors on the unsuspecting population.

Meanwhile, the Death Guard under Rhegorn, Chosen of the Seventh, invaded the anterior gate of Hive City Gaia, sowing all sorts of plague. Bringing a plaguehost of daemon engines that included Plagueburst Crawlers and Foetid Bloat Drones, as well as hulking Blightlord Terminators to escort them, they attacked the deeply entrenched Argent Imperial Guard regiment. Arrayed with a dozen tanks, including the venerable Baneblade Traitor's Bane and accompanied by a subservient Knight lance from Argent, the Knight Valiant Valiance stood tall, ready to empty his inferno cannon into the diseased hordes of shambling poxwalkers. By his side were Mechanicus enslaved bondsmen piloting Armigers Helverin.

The Death Guard hit fast and hard, smashing through the Imperial Guard forces before the mortal defenders realized what had struck. Diseases had rendered many guardsmen unable to fight, their swollen bodies dripping with pus and blood from their orifices. The few Guardsmen who were able to survive the myriad infections packed themselves in the safety of their tanks, but to their horror, they realized that the thick armor was no protection against the howling Nurgle daemons and Blightlord Terminators that ripped them apart. Tearing armored plates off and crushing the Leman Russ tanks, Hellhounds and even the Baneblade Traitor's Bane like cans, the inexorable Death Guard massacred the few surviving Imperial Guardsmen and wiped the Argents out from Hive City Gaia. Of a few thousand strong regiment, only a tenth of that number escaped alive, their tanks fuming and crumbling from corrosive rust.

On the other hand, their Black Templars allies fared better. Dispatching Terminator and Bladeguard units through the narrow confines of Magos Cecile's labyrinthine laboratories, the ceramite corridors dripping with heretek and foul magicks, they fought their way through cyborg abominations that fused human genetics with that of Tyranids. Magos Cecile himself had crafted armor from xenotech plundered from Necron tombs and wandered out to face the Emperor's Champion in combat...only to be laid low. Fortunately, his accompanying Enginseer were able to distract the Emperor's Champion with a vicious servo-arm and axe blow to pull his stricken master to safety. Elsewhere, the Redemptor and Contemptor Dreadnoughts set to work, wiping out Genestealer infected Kataphron Destroyers, but losing one of their ancients to the grinding combat.

The Terminators and Bladeguard Veterans suffered heavy casualties against the Kataphron Breachers, their hydraulic claws abominable amalgamations of Carnifex scythes and Dark Mechanicum machinery. Their thunder hammers had little effect against the accursed armor plate of the daemonic cyborgs, which had a layer of Tyranid chitin growing over it. Fortunately, the arrival of the Repulsor Executioner Sigismund's Fury prevented the melee from turning into a rout, rescuing only two Assault Terminators from the ferocious claws of the hybrid combat servitors.

At present, the Death Guard might have prevailed, but the Dark Mechanicum forces have been defeated, Magos Cecile's insidious schemes forcibly halted...for now, anyway. Hive City Gaia is still hotly contested by both Imperial forces and the servants of Chaos. Unbeknownst to both sides, the broods of Hive Fleet Leviathan have not been idle. Having retreated to lick their wounds, they have devoured more biomass to replenish their savaged hordes...and once they have rebuilt their numbers, the Hive Mind intends to strike.

For all of the organisms living on Gydisk Sigma, whether Imperial or Traitor, will be consumed by Hive Fleet Leviathan in the end...

Painted Stuff

I painted the volkite destructor and Acatus Knight Asterius today! Now all my Adeptus Titanicus stuff are fully painted, and my Warlord Titan has the volkite destructor option. Yeah, I magnetized his arms, so I can swap the volkite destructor out for a second Sunfury plasma annihilator. I sold my other Warlord Titan with the volcano cannons, quake cannon and macro gatling blaster, as well as gave away the claw, so it's just plasma and volkite. That's fine, my forge world, Draconis IV, is known for producing plasma and volkite weapons, so this fits perfectly.

I also put the Valhallan Blizzard snow and winter grass tufts on the bases of my Black Templars, so they are pretty much done! Yay! The only thing I have left is to wait for a bunch of Terminators and Imperial Fists shields and thunder hammers to arrive, and then I'll work on my Cataphractii Terminators. At least I hope that's all I need. Do I need anything else? I can't remember. That should be all...I hope. Oh, right. A third Knight Moirax, as well as another Armiger Warglaive is on the way - so I will have six Armiger class Knights in total. I can't wait to get them all painted and field them in a tournament. We'll see what happens! With Armigers getting Objective Secured, this should help me play to the mission better.

Oh, right. Here's my complete Knight Household Army with a single Warlord Titan as support! House Yato shall march to the defense of Terra! Yeah, my Adeptus Titanicus Knight Household Army can double as both Horus Heresy and Warhammer 40,000 forces. We've been around for more than 10,000 years, heh. That's why we have Glorified History as our Knight Household Tradition. We've been loyally fighting for Terra since before the Heresy, and we were even in Terra for the Siege itself (that's the setting for my short story, Slayers of Beasts, if you haven't figured it out already). So yeah, my Adeptus Titanicus Knight Household Army is themed around the Siege of Terra. We were there when Horus slew the Emperor, fighting valiantly against the overwhelming forces of Legio Mortis.

That's a lot of Knights. As an aside, I should send this to Natfka for the What's on your table stuff. I think he's looking for more photos and stuff for that, right? I dunno. Anyway, we shall see!

Slayers of Beasts

The mornful bellow from the Warmaster Titan's warhorns echoed throughout the ruins of Mercury Wall.

The engines of Legio Mortis had finally broken through the Mercury Wall, having run down the last survivors of Legio Ignatum. They continued to advance upon the beleaguered inner sanctum of the Imperial Palace. The loyalist survivors had largely retreated to the Sanctum Imperalis, leaving the outer rings of the palace to the inexorable invasion of the enemy.

Most of them, anyway.

Amidst the dense fog of dust and pollution that churned the air as orbital bombardments and artillery guns pounded the wrecked hab-blocks and manufactorums that once lined the palace's edges, several large shapes loomed, stalking the darkness. Though dwarfed by the immense Titans that battered the ruined wall and dug through the rubble with massive drill-claws, they were still titanic walkers over thirty feet in height. Azure power fields crackled to life around reaper chainswords and cerastus lances, lighting up the gloom that now haunted the holy land of Terra.

Mercury Wall might have fallen and the revered Legio Ignatum might have been all but annihilated, but the defenders continued to stand strong.

Drawn mostly from the myriad Knight houses that fought in Legio Ignatum's ill-fated last stand against their hated enemy, Legio Mortis, the bulk of the strike force was mostly comprised of Knights from House Yato. Borne of the distant world, Draconis III, the far-flung descendants of the colonists originating from the Dragon Nations had gathered together. No longer was their goal the defense of the Imperial Palace or the salvation of humanity.

No. Their goal now was vengeance. To hurt the enemy as much as possible in one desperate act of spite. To drown them in so much blood that the only outcome of this hellish war was mutual destruction. Roboute Guilliman, Lion El'Jonson and Leman Russ had failed to come, their legions yet to arrive in Sol System for the final defense. The Traitors had run rampant all over the holy soil of Terra, desecrating it.

However, all was not lost yet. Through vox communications, they could hear the enemy being bled out. The Black Sword, and the Emperor's Champion who wielded it, slaying traitor champions by the dozen and inspiring the last surviving bands of imperial army soldiers to a ferocious defiance. The victory of the V Legion over the diseased XIV Legion, retaking the Lion's Gate Spaceport from Mortarion's plague-ridden sons. The defenders of Terra were far from defeated. As long as even a single bushi drew breath, they would fight on for the Emperor.

"But we cannot be reckless," Ishida cautioned, the upper half of his Cerastus Knight Lancer pivoted about to scan the ragged area. His auspex fizzled and spat static, unable to filter the dusty environment for any useful information. "Our opponents are god-engines. You have seen th state of some of them. I do know what foul magicks they have used, but they have distorted those once-glorious machines into something...twisted and daemonic."

"Ayakashi," Kawakami growled, clenching his fists within his haptic gloves. The thunderstrike gauntlet of his Questoris Knight Errant mirrored his movements. The rest of the warriors of House Yato murmured in agreement. The Ayakashi had been longtime enemies of the Knights of Draconis III, generations of armored riders sent out to repel during the horrors of Old Night. Even if the current pilots had not actually experienced such combat, they had all heard the terrifying legends. Particularly from the ghosts that whispered to them within their Throne Mechanicum.

"Be that as it may, but we cannot allow these traitors to continue inward," Suzuki said. His Cerastus Knight Atrapos stood some distance away, its bellicose machine spirit growling. Even among the Knights of House Yato, the Atrapos had a fearsome reputation that matched its function of hunting the largest enemy engines and monsters and slaying them. As such, even the fellow nobles remained wary of his armor.

"We are few in number and they are many," Tanaka pointed out with a sigh. Steam vented from the plasma decimator of his Dominus Knight Castellan, which was still warm after obliterating an armored column of enemy tanks. He was exhausted, having just rejoined his lance after assisting the First Terran Armoured in their long march toward the Lion's Gate Spaceport. "I lost my Bondsmen to the XIV Legion. Fighting against the Death Guard tanks was already risky. Titans will be a lot more dangerous."

"Heh, have you lost your nerve, Tanaka?" Suzuki taunted. "I did not think your little adventure with the White Scars would turn you into a coward."

"No, I am simply advising caution."

"So what do you suggest?" Kawakami demanded. "We can't just sit around doing nothing."

"No," Tanaka agreed. "But I've learned something from the V Legion. Hit and run tactics...strike fast, and then fade into the darkness before the enemy realizes what hit them. As long as we are careful, we can take down the greatest enemy with minimal losses."

"Minimal losses?" Suzuki barked out in laughter, and his Knight Atrapos gestured its lascutter toward the blackened skies as an imitation of its pilot's gesture. "Do you think there will be anything left?"

"Maybe not," Ishida cut in. "But that doesn't mean we should throw our lives away. As long as we remain alive, we can continue hitting back for as long as possible, and as many times as possible."

"Agreed." Kawakami nodded, his features obscured by the grainy image of the holo-picts floating in their Thrones Mechanicum. "I would rather fell two Titans than just one."

"I have a target for you guys, actually," Tanaka said with a smile. He conjured a fresh holo-screen and transmitted it to the others. "This particular enemy seems to have strayed away from its maniple, and we can strike it before it groups up with others."

The Infernus Magnificus was once a magnificent Titan, but its shape had been twisted by the daemons that now inhabited its warped structure. A Warmaster Titan of the Iconoclast class, it had been hidden in the armories of Mars until Kelbor-Hal had sanctioned for its release to Legio Mortis. Having served the Death Heads over several battlefields since then, the twisted engine only grew more unrecognizable with each slaugher, with the laughing unholy essences within its frame transforming their new home into shapes more pleasing to their bestial natures.

Ghostly fires spiraled out from what used to be vents, and its drill had now adopted a shape closer to clawed talons. Its skull-like face had mutated into a spectral facade, infernal fire burning within its sockets and mouth, and a slimy tongue lolled out, as if to taste the thick, gritty air that now saturated Holy Terra.

With another low growl, the Infernus Magnificus stomped across the wreckage. It had wandered away from its maniple, having sighted a small column of armor moving toward the distance. Having recognized the imperial tanks as prey, it stalked after them. One arm, formerly a Desolator chainsword, had now warped into a fleshy, snout-shaped blade with dripping fangs running along its edges. Without a proper ranged weapon other than the rotary cannons fitted into its carapace and shoulder-mounted melta cannons, it was forced to get up close to the fleeing tanks. Unfortunately, it lost its prey in the fog of dust. Wailing, the Infernus Magnificus stalked the region in hopes of running down the tanks, but its persistent search bore no fruit.

As distracted as it was by its elusive prey, the Infernus Magnificus did not notice the stealthy pack of much smaller predators closing in on it through the thick clouds of dust.

Like packs of Deinonychus hunting titanic sauropods during a primordial era in Old Earth's distant past, the Knights worked together to flank the Infernus Magnificus's rear arc. They had kept their weapons powered down, hoping not to trigger any sensors.

The first instance the Infernus Magnificus noticed that something was amiss was when the servitors hideously fused to the fleshy overgrowths that now spread across its mighty frame jolted and pinged their auspexes. The Ardex-defensor cannons began spitting out mauler bolt rounds at the ghostly silhouettes of Knights. Most of them missed, for the servitors' senses and the daemons' sight alike were befouled by the fog of dust. The daemons, in particular, were feeling sluggish when in close proximity to the wards in the palace.

Enju, Kawakami's Knight Errant, took a glance blow from one of the Ardex-defensor cannons, but he managed to deflect it with his ion shield. His thermal cannon glowed and roared, an incendiary beam lancing toward the Warmaster Titan's void shields and dissipating harmlessly.

By now, the Infernus Magnificus was turning around, its Desolator chainsword sweeping about to cleave the irritants into oblivion. But the Cerastus Knights moved quickly, keeping to its rear arc. Artificial lightning crackled around the lance of Ishida's Kishido, and he rammed it against the leg joints of the immense Titan.

The Infernus Magnificus appeared to bellow in agony, its warhorns shrieking so loudly that glass exploded in hab blocks and other units...those that remained unbroken after months of intense fighting and bombardment. It teetered, as if drunk, and then swiped, but Kishido had already moved away, making use of its superior agility to stay out of the devastating weapon's reach.

Ankoku then struck with its Atrapos las-cutter. Suzuki had timed it perfectly, when Infernus Magnificus was still targeting Kishido. The crackling beam scythed through the already weakened joints, slicing through exposed cables and leaving a molten gouge in the adamantium armor. Not satisfied with the damage, Suzuki stuck the graviton singularity cannon into the breach and fired at pointblank range. Black energies swirled about, crumpling metal and adamantium like an aluminium can that was still used by some more affluent regiments for ration-packs and drinks. Something must have gone critical, for internal explosions rang through the limb and the Infernus Magnificus sagged to one side.

However, the wounded beast was still dangerus. While Ankoku withdrew, it was not able to avoid the crushing grip of the Krius drill. One strike and Suzuki's Knight literally ceased to exist, reduced to shrapnel of metal as the screaming drill smashed his armor apart.

Suzuki's sacrifice was not in vain, for Kawakami maneuvered Enju toward the Titan's damaged leg. Firing the thermal cannon at pointblank range, Kawakami further softened the already burning joints. The limb was not entirely severed, but the adamantium armor was glowing red-hot and melting. Retreating swiftly, having learned from Suzuki's mistake, Kawakam left a spiteful slash with Enju's glowing Thunderstrike Gauntlet to rip out a chunk of ceramite and a handful of sparking cables before he darted away from the swinging Desolator chainsword.

The Infernus Magnificus snarled and reached out with its drill, but was distracted by minor explosions that spread across its void shields. Despite the damage to its left leg, the generator continued to hum, putting up a near impenetrable wall of voids that absorbed the ordnance from Tanaka's Knight Castellan. Kuro Ryuu was throwing out bursts of plasma from its plasma decimator and siegebreaker cannons, but none of the rounds broke through the void shields.

Then ruby lances of volkite slammed against the protective curtain, causing them to shimmer and pop like bubbles. A lance of Questoris Knights Styrix wearing the colors of House Kanda. The Mechanicus-algined house that served the neighboring forge world of Draconis IV, they were armed with esoteric weaponry. Immense volkite beams speared out of their volkite chieoroviles, taxing the void shield generators of the Infernus Magnificus and superheating them. The shimmering layers turned red from the intense heat and began to pop out of existence, one at a time.

However, this being the Warmaster Titan, it had countless void shields. A few collapsed, but still many remained standing. The shoulder-mounted melta cannons roared and one of the Knights Styrix winked out of existence, the incadescent blast melting it to slag. The rest of its banner quickly dispersed, avoiding the heavy rounds from the Infernus Magnificus's gatling cannons.

Then a single massive beam slammed into the last of the Infernus Magnificus's void shields, smashing it apart with a volcanic burst of superheated air. Ryuujin, the Warlord Titan of Legio Draconis - the sworn defenders of Draconis IV, strode forward, its volkite destructor roaring in fury. The Iconoclast-class Titan turned its fury toward Ryuujin, its melta cannons and gatling cannons snarling and battering the Warlord Titan's void shields out of existence. But it didn't intend to finish off the venerable machine at range. Its Krius drill was already spinning, threatening to slay the smaller Titan in close combat.

Tanaka saw his chance to save Princeps Kurosawa's machine. Now that the void shields of the enemy Titan had completely collapsed, he could pinpoint a target. Holding his breath, he lined the targeters on his auspex up, lifted up the volcano lance of Kuro Ryuu, and fired.

The massive beam erupted from the barrel and lanced through the damaged components on Infernus Magnificus's leg, finally separating it. For a moment, it appeared that Infernus Magnificus would not fall, the damage apparently superficial. However, it ground to a stop as its leg refused to obey its commands, vital cables and components ruptured, bathing the huge chambers within in flames and incinerating both neverborn and servitors alike.

Princeps Kurosawa did not miss his chance. Lining the Sunfury plasma annihilator of Ryuujin up, he melted the already softened remnants of Infernus Magnificus's leg to slag. With a howling groan, the Warmaster Titan teetered and toppled over, crashing facefirst into the dirt.

Kuro Ryuu and Enju converged, firing their thermal cannon and volcano lance into the torso, stripping away layers of armor. Ryuujin roared and its carapace turbo-laser destructors fired, gouging out more of the armor and exposing the plasma reactor. With another well-aimed shot from the super-charged plasma annihilator, Kurosawa slew the Infernus Magnificus with a superheated salvo that ruptured the plasma reactor and blew the fallen Titan up in a castastrophic explosion.

"Well fought, Knights of House Yato." The proud voice of Princeps Kurosawa was carried across the vox in their Thrones Mechanicum. "Good hunting."

"We would have lost more if it weren't for your assistance, honored Princeps," Ishida said.

"That does not lessen your courage and valor," Kurosawa responded. The Knights could hear the smile in his voice. "It heartens me that resistance continues even in these dark days."

"We follow the example of the Emperor's Champion. As long as even one of us remains standing, we will fight to the end." Kawakami was grim. "For the Emperor."

"For the Omnissiah, indeed." Kurosawa nodded. "Then...will you accompany me as we hunt down more of these abominations?"

"We will be honored to join you, noble Princeps," Tanaka said. He felt a tremendous sense of relief. With a Warlord Titan fighting by their side, perhaps their Knight Lance could take out more enemies before the inevitable end.

Perhaps they would all die here, on the ancestral homeworld of humanity...but he was determined to stave it off for as long as he could...and punish as many of the Emperor's enemies as possible.

Acastus Knight Asterius and Volkite Destructor

Finally got around to working on some Adeptus Titanicus stuff. I built an Acastus Knight Asterius and a Volkite Destructor for my Warlord Titan. Will paint them sometime in the future, hopefully I will not procrastinate as I did for assembling these couple of stuff. I really put off painting my 8 Black Templar models for quite some time...I'll add the Valhallan Blizzard snow when I paint these two. Get everything done in one shot.

At least that's the plan...but I don't know when that will happen. We shall see...anyway, hopefully we'll have a great year for Warhammer 40,000! I might or might not get some Chaos Knights to ally with my Thousand Sons (couldn't care less about the Cabal Points, and vanilla Thousand Sons are seemingly pretty bad right now). We shall see. I don't know.

I've been reading quite a lot of Warhammer 40,000 novels published by Black Library, particularly the Siege of Terra novels. I like Mortis and Warhawk, those two being the latest books I've read, though Saturnine is still my favorite. Can't wait for Aaron Dembski-Bowden's book! I'm a little bummed that Knights don't get a huge role - there were the Armiger bondsmen (or bondswoman) in Mortis, but otherwise Knghts don't really feature other than mentions. I like the First Terran Armor in Warhawk, but I'm surprised there were no Knights among them. Maybe I'll try writing a fanfiction story about a lance of Knights accompanying and escorting the First Terran Armor, assisting the White Scars against the Death Guard. Might be fun, but nobody's going to read it, so I might just get lazy and not write it. Heh.

For now, I'll be getting a couple more Armigers to add to my Imperial Knights army and play them more often this year. Maybe I'll play Black Templars once in a while - they are so fun, and I love the Cataphractii Terminators with Imperial Fists shields (I field them as Templar Brethren in 30K or Black Templars) - but I want to focus more on Knights in terms of tournament stuff. We'll see if I can pull it off. If not, well...it is what it is. I'll also focus more on my Mechanicum army for Horus Heresy. Seems like my friends will be organizing a Horus Heresy narrative event in February, so I'll get a chance to test out my new Mechanicum army (plus Knights) there! I'll do my best again this year. Anyway, till then!

Also, if you're spam bots, do NOT post in the comments, or I'll just remove the Disqus widget altogether. Sigh.

Disqus spam

I've been receiving a lot of spam comments on Disqus with horrible pictures of half-naked women begging for attention. Stupid bots. I've been removing them through Disqus's moderation function, but it's depressing that the only comments I get are from spam bots.

So I'm considering removing the Disqus and disabling comments. Not that anyone is reading this blog, so I don't think anyone cares, but if there are any suggestions on how to get rid of spam bots altogether, I'm all for it. The reason why I switched to Disqus from Blogger comments was to prevent spam bots in the comments in the first place, and this sort of defeats the purpose.

Any suggestions? Or should I just get rid of the Disqus comments altogether?

Never mind, I found something on Disqus that allows me to disallow comments with videos and images in them. Hopefully this works.

Painted Sword Brethren

The original plan was to play Crusade today, but...nobody except Adrian showed up. Well, Ryan did too, but he had to leave early. So...yeah, no Crusade today. A pity, otherwise we would be doing Onslaught games today. On the other hand, there was a Flames of War tournament at the friendly local gaming store, so I doubt we would be able to find a table or space for 150 power level games today.

So I ended up painting instead! I wasn't able to finish painting fully, but I got most of it done. All the colors - I was unable to do the basing, but at least I painted the bases white. Just need to add Valhallan Blizzard and grass tufts later, but otherwise I'm almost done. Probably will get them all done sometime this week or so. Hopefully, but we'll never know.

Anyway, that's what I did today in lieu of Crusade! I painted 2 Assault Intercessors, the Sword Brethren plus Castellan and a Repulsor Executioner! Also painted the pintle multimeltas for my Repulsor Executioner tanks. Glad to get it all done and over with. All that's left is the Valhallan Blizzard and grass tufts, but otherwise I'm pretty much close to done. Can't wait to finish them!

Then I'll probably move on to my next project, which is...I dunno. More Black Templar Terminators? Oh, right. I'll be getting a couple more Castellax battle-automata soon, in preparation for a Horus Heresy gaming day that will most likely be on February 5th. Can't wait for that too! Till then!

A couple of Titanicus games

To start off the new year, I had a couple of Adeptus Titanicus games. Man, I love Adeptus Titanicus and my Knights. As usual, I fielded a Knight Household Army against Titans.

The first match was against a friend with Legio Tempestus. He wanted to try out his new Warmaster Iconoclast Titan, so yay. He fielded the Warmaster alongside 2 Warhounds, a Reaver and 2 Cerastus Knight Lancers. In contrast, my list was 2 Knight Lances - 2 Cerastus Knights Atrapos, 2x2 Questoris Knights Styrix, and then 4 Cerastus Kights Lancer, 3 Questoris Knights Errant and 3 Questoris Knights Paladin. They were accompanied by 2 auxiliary banners of 2 Acastus Knights Porphyrion.

The mission was Conquest (?) where we scored victory points for having our units within range of the opponent's table edge, and another 5 points if the opponent didn't have any of his units within range of their table age. It took place on a toxic world, which meant our Knights took damage on a 6+, and there was smog, which meant that units couldn't shoot at anything that's less than a distance equal to twice their scale. That might sound complicated, but basically, if I want to shoot at a Warhound, I had to be within 12" of it to target it (because it's scale 6). Otherwise all shots outside 12" automatically miss. For a Warmaster, I needed to be 24" away from it to target it because it's scale 12.

The deployment zone was a little weird. Anyway, it seemed that my opponent went first and I couldn't get many orders off because I kept rolling 1s for the D10 command checks. Fortunately, shielded by the smog, I was able to keep my Knights alive...mostly.

Until the Warmaster finally came within range. At first, it hilariously whiffed with its drill when it charged at my Knights Paladin, rolling a bunch of 1s or something. I wasn't able to do much damage to it because of how tough it was, but I did manage to disable its plasma blastguns eventually. Nonetheless, the Warmaster destroyed the Knights Errant in the combat phase, while I only killed 1 Knight Lancer in return. One Warhound suffered critical damage to the legs because of plasma mines, but I wasn't able to do much damage.

For most of the game, I could only see my Knights fall to the Warmaster when it got too close, and though I was somehow able to destroy the Knight Lancers, I basically lost 2 Knights Porphyrion and an entire lance. Eventually, I had just the banner of 2 Acastus Knights Porphyrion and the Knight Atrapos and 3 Knights Styrix left. Aware that I couldn't do anything to the Ttans, especially with the smog - and actually making use of the smog to my advantage, I hid my beleaguered Knights away and kept 2 Knights Porphyrion close to the opponent's table edge while my Knights Styrix and Knights Atrapos danced away from the Titans and hugged my table edge thanks to Full Stride order finally going through.

The game then ended with my Knights running and hiding away from the Titans. It seemed like a draw - my opponent's Reaver Titan survived, giving him 5 points for Secondary, whereas I got 5 points for denying him the "opponent has no units near his table edge" objective and getting it myself. We got the same for primary objective because we had units right along the respective table edges, so it was a draw. I didn't get the secondary objective because I needed to kill a Titan or 2 in the first 2 turns, or at least kill them both by the end of the game, which I failed to do. Fortunately, one of the Stratagems I took was a tertiary objective that allowed me to get 2 points for every structurally compromised Titan that my opponent had. So I won, but just barely. Won by 2 points! That was a really close game! Honestly, my opponent should have won and he nearly tabled me, but the smog and playing to the mission really helped a lot.

The second game was against another friend. We were supposed to play Crusade today, but some things happened, and...yeah. Suffice to say, he was't able to olay Crusade against an opponent who was already there, so I suggested we play, and he wanted an Adeptus Titanicus game instead. That suited me just fine.

I fielded the same Knight Household Army, but my opponent brought 2 Warlord Titans - both with Belicosa volcano cannons - 2 Reaver Titans and 2 Warhound Titans. The mission this time was Acquisition, with us needing to grab objective markers and bring them away. There was radiation instead of smog, which would increase reactor level if the Titans were too close to the storm. And then the world was a War World? Which we completely forgot about.

Anyway, it was hilarious. The Warlord Titans decimated and destroyed tons of my Knights. My opponent picked up the marker with his Warhound Titans and then ran away with it, only for my Acastus Knights Porphyrion to shoot them in the back (getting bonus armor penetration damage) and blow them up. The first one blew up catastrophically and killed his squadron mate. Ouch.

Even though I lost even more Questoris Knights here and there, my Knight Lancers made it to the Warlord Titan and slew it in combat after a charge and combat phase. Even better, my Knights Porphyrion killed a Reaver Titan. Engine kill! The Warlord Titans retaliated and destroyed 3 of my 4 Acastus Knights. Ouch. That was so...ouch. Meanwhile, my surviving Knight Lancer made it to the Reaver Titan and slew it in combat again, only to get blown up by the magazine detonation. Ouch. The Warlord Titan took a hit from the explosion, but was otherwise perfectly fine. Having picked up the marker, the surviving Knight Atrapos and a couple of Knights Styrix hid behind buildings and stayed out of line of sight from the sole remaining Warlord Titan, as did my last Knight Porphyrion. The game ended with my Knight force being almost annihilated, but we somehow won because of the primary objective. I think my opponent had 4 points for slaying my Seneschal, while I had 15 points for primary. I can't remember my secondary, but I think it had something to do with Make them Suffer, which meant that I gained points if my opponent's Titan was structurally compromised. They were either dead or not structurally compromised, so I didn't get that one. Oh, well. But a win was still a win, heh.

That was fun! I love Adeptus Titanicus. I hope to be playing more of it again this year!
