Adeptus Mechanicus and Astra Militarum/Imperial Guard "Wiki"

Ave Omnissiah!

My blog is primarily my own personal fluff in the Warhammer 40,000 universe regarding the Draconis system such as the Knight House Yato in Draconis III, the Imperial Guard...I mean, Astra Militarum regiment trained there, the Draconian Armored Force, and the Forge World of Draconis IV with its Adeptus Mechanicus priesthood and Skitarii legions, and perhaps the Titan Legion, Legio Gojira (which will never happen because I don't have money for Forge World Titans).

Oh, and I'll throw in the Thousand Sons from time to time because they're my favorite Space Marine Legion. I refuse to believe that they are Traitors! They're just...ahem...secretly loyal to the Imperium!

Imperium 2 Codex

So I went and pre-ordered my Imperium 2 Index today. Finally got hold of it. I want the rulebook, but I think I'll just download the core rules online and print them out. Ugh.

Thanks to this baby I can field all 3 of my armies, Astra Militarum, Adeptus Mechanicus and Imperial Knights (who the hell will call them Questoris Imperialis?!) while referring to only one book. So I've been looking around and trying to come up with proper lists that will fit under 2,000 points.

First I decided to build around my Imperial Knights, and grab that 3 Command Points benefit from the Super-heavy Detachment.

So I have something like this:

Imperial Knights

Knight Paladin 320+30+2x4+100 = 458

Knight Errant 320+30+4+76 = 430

Knight Warden 320+95+17+17+30 = 479

Total: 1,367

Battalion Detachment

Tech-priest Dominus 125+8 (Volkite blaster) + 2 (macrostubber) = 135

Tech-priest Dominus 125+14 (eradication ray) + 2 (macrostubber) = 141

Skitarii Vanguard 10x10+7 (omnispex) = 107

Skitarii Rangers 5x10 + 7 (omnispex) = 57

Kataphron Destroyers 3x35+ 3x27 (plasma culverins) = 186

Total: 626

Final count: 1,993

This gives me a whooping extra 6 Command Points, but I had to go very light on the upgrades. None of my Imperial Knights have carapace weapons in this iteration.

I was thinking, what if I make the Adeptus Mechanicus Battalion the main force instead?

List 1:

Battalion Detachment

Tech-priest Dominus 125+8 (Volkite blaster) + 2 (macrostubber) = 135

Tech-priest Dominus 125+14 (eradication ray) + 2 (macrostubber) = 141

Skitarii Vanguard 10x10+7 (omnispex) + 3x14 (plasma caliver) = 149

Kataphron Destroyers 3x35+ 3x27 (plasma culverins) = 186

Kataphron Destroyers 3x35+ 3x27 (plasma culverins) = 186

Total: 797

Vanguard Detachment

Tempestor Prime 40+5 (plasma pistol) = 45

Militarum Tempestus Command Squad 4x[9+7 (plasma gun)] = 4x16=64

Militarum Tempestus Command Squad 4x[9+7 (plasma gun)] = 4x16=64

Tech-priest Enginseer 40+12 (servo-arm) = 52

Total: 225

Imperial Knights

Knight Paladin 320+30+2x4+100+45 = 503

Knight Errant 320+30+4+76+30 = 460

Total: 963

Absolute total: 1,985

This doesn't look optimal. For one thing, I have 15 points left over. For another, my Tech-priest Enginseer is pretty much useless because there is nothing for him to repair. Wait, what? Repair? Aha! That's it! Since the guy can repair Astra Militarum vehicles, then I'll give him an Astra Militarum vehicle to repair! Let's replace the Knight Errant with a Shadowsword instead.

List 2:

Battalion Detachment

Tech-priest Dominus 125+8 (Volkite blaster) + 2 (macrostubber) = 135

Tech-priest Dominus 125+14 (eradication ray) + 2 (macrostubber) = 141

Skitarii Vanguard 10x10+7 (omnispex) + 14 (plasma caliver) = 121

Kataphron Destroyers 3x35+ 3x27 (plasma culverins) = 186

Kataphron Destroyers 3x35+ 3x27 (plasma culverins) = 186

Total: 769

Vanguard Detachment

Tempestor Prime 40+5 (plasma pistol) = 45

Militarum Tempestus Command Squad 4x[9+7 (plasma gun)] = 4x16=64

Militarum Tempestus Command Squad 4x[9+7 (plasma gun)] = 4x16=64

Tech-priest Enginseer 40+12 (servo-arm) = 52

Total: 225

Super-heavy Auxiliary Detachment

Knight Paladin 320+30+2x4+100+45 = 503

Shadowsword 430+ 20x2 (lascannons) + 14x2 (twin heavy bolter) = 430+40+28 = 498

Total: 1,001

Absolute Total: 1,995

Looks better now, doesn't it? Now I can hide my Tech-priest Enginseer at the back and have him repair my Shadowsword every turn while shooting from afar.

The alternative is to take out the Tech-priest Enginseer and upgrade my Knight Errant into a Knight Crusader, while taking out one Militarum Tempestus Command Squad.

Battalion Detachment

Tech-priest Dominus 125+8 (Volkite blaster) + 2 (macrostubber) = 135

Tech-priest Dominus 125+14 (eradication ray) + 2 (macrostubber) = 141

Skitarii Vanguard 10x10+7 (omnispex) + 3x14 (plasma caliver) = 149

Kataphron Destroyers 3x35+ 3x27 (plasma culverins) = 186

Kataphron Destroyers 3x35+ 3x27 (plasma culverins) = 186

Tempestor Prime 40+5 (plasma pistol) = 45

Militarum Tempestus Command Squad 4x[9+7 (plasma gun)] = 4x16=64

Total: 906

Imperial Knights

Knight Paladin 320+30+2x4+100+45 = 503

Knight Crusader 320+95+17+2x4+100+45 = 585

Total: 1,088

Absolute Total: 1,994

This is a Battle-forged list, so it runs okay. The problem is that I can't use Canticles of the Omnissiah with this list because my Tempestor Prime and Militarum Tempestus Command Squad do not have the abilitiy, Canticles of the Omnissiah, and you can only use it when all the units in the same Detachment have the ability. Like my Battalion Detachment from earlier, where my Militarum Tempestus units are in a separate detachment (Vanguard Detachment), then all the Adeptus Mechanicus units in the same Detachment (i.e. the Battalion Detachment) will benefit from Canticles of Omnissiah. The Tech-priest Enginseer doesn't, but he doesn't need them when he's staying at the back to repair my Shadowsword.

So an alternative is to eschew the Shadowsword or Knight Crusader altogether to run a more Cybernetica list.

Battalion Detachment

Tech-priest Dominus 125+8 (Volkite blaster) + 2 (macrostubber) = 135

Tech-priest Dominus 125+14 (eradication ray) + 2 (macrostubber) = 141

Skitarii Vanguard 10x10+7 (omnispex) = 107

Kataphron Destroyers 3x35+ 3x27 (plasma culverins) = 186

Kataphron Destroyers 3x35+ 3x27 (plasma culverins) = 186

Cybernetica Datasmith 22+10 (gamma pistol)+ 20 (power fist) = 52

Kastelan Robots 4x [65+15x3] = 4x110 = 440

Total: 1,247

Vanguard Detachment

Tempestor Prime 40+5 (plasma pistol) = 45

Militarum Tempestus Command Squad 4x[9+7 (plasma gun)] = 4x16=64

Militarum Tempestus Command Squad 4x[9+7 (plasma gun)] = 4x16=64

Militarum Tempestus Command Squad 4x[9+9 (hot-shot volley gun)] = 4x18=72

Total: 245

Super-heavy Auxiliary Detachment

Knight Paladin 320+30+2x4+100+45 = 503

Total: 1,995

Okay, that looks pretty cool, but what about the fluff? I mean, my Imperial Guard army is supposed to be an armored regiment. Where are all the tanks? All we have are Kamikaze Troopers and a Shadowsword!

Spearhead Detachment

Tank Commander 167+22 (Battle Cannon)+ 8 (heavy bolter)+ 2x17 (heavy flamer) = 231

Tank Commander 167+25 (Vanquisher Cannon)+ 20 (lascannon)+ 2x20 (multi-melta) = 252

Leman Russ Demolisher 132+20 (Executioner plasma cannon)+ 2x15 (plasma cannons)+ 20 (lascannon) = 202

Leman Russ Demolisher 132+20 (Executioner plasma cannon)+ 2x15 (plasma cannons)+ 8 (heavy bolter) = 190

Onager Dunecrawler 90+40 (Icarus array) + 8 (Cognis heavy stubber) = 138

Total: 1,013

Super-heavy Auxiliary Detachment

Knight Paladin 320+30+2x4+100+30 (Icarus autocannons) = 488

Shadowsword 430+ 20x2 (lascannons) + 14x2 (twin heavy bolter) = 430+40+28 = 498

Total: 986

Absolute Total: 1,999

Here's an all-tank list. We have 4 Leman Russ tanks, 1 Onager Dunecrawler, 1 Shadowsword, and a single Knight Paladin. The problem? We only get one command point out of all of this. Powerful, powerful units, but not much command points. Not a lot of units on the table too. Oh well.

Anyway, we shall see. I'll play around with these various lists and see which is the most optimum build. Let me know which you think is best. I'll be preparing for the Konor Campaign in July, and I hope I can run a good list! So I'll need all the advice I can get.

For the Emperor!
