Dire Wolf Scout Titan!
Seriously?
So Warhammer Community has seen fit to preview the contents of the first Warzone: Nachmund book: Vigilus Alone.
Oh, look! Abaddon is on the cover! You'd think this campaign book will be centered on Chaos, right? Well, not exactly.
Instead, we get an Army of Renown for a Phobos Army (or Vanguard Spearhead), datasheets for the new Captain in Gravis Armor and Primaris Ancient (I'm pretty sure they already have datasheets in the codex because of the Dark Imperium boxset, but I could be mistaken, but I guess they need to promote the new models), and a codex supplement for Order of the Bloody Rose. Adeptus Astartes and Adepta Sororitas already have their codexes, and they get more stuff. Whoo! Unfortunately for Chaos Space Marines, who are still stuck at one bloody wound, they don't get anything. No Army of Renown, no codex supplement like Hive Fleet Leviathan (which was awesome) or Cadia (which sucked - even though I tried my best to make it work during the Octarius Campaign), nothing. And I don't even play Chaos Space Marines. I actually feel sorry for the poor Heretic Astartes. They need help, and they need it soon.
Well, we all know they will be getting new models and a new codex. We already have the Eldritch Omens box previewed during Christmas, and Chaos will be getting a new Warpsmith, new Chosen and a bunch of new stuff, so yay (?). Just like with Hexfire, which saw the release of Thousand Sons and Grey Knights codexes alongside it, and Shadow Throne, which was supposed to be released alongside Adeptus Custodes and Genestealer Cultists codexes (they got delayed, unfortunately), I assume the Chaos Space Marines and Aeldari codexes will be released at the same time as Eldritch Omens. We just have to be patient. In fact, I bet the second Warzone Nachmund book, which will be released after Eldritch Omens and the Heretic Astartes and Aeldari codexes, will contain supplements and extra army stuff for Chaos armies.
However, I still don't think this is a good idea. The timing is screwed up. If you want to do this, you shouldn't be releasing Warzone Nachmund: Vigilus Alone first. You should probably do all the Chaos Space Marines (and Aeldari) releases first, and then have a campaign centered on them. I say this not only because I think Chaos Space Marines need their 2 wounds and help in the meta, but also as a campaign master. Okay, we get this campaign book with all the cool narrative, Crusade stuff and missions, but what's the bloody point when the Chaos Space Marine armies are currently unplayable!?
Are we supposed to watch them get their asses kicked every single time they play? Oh, cool! Look at the Phobos Vanguard Spearhead and the Order of the Bloody Rose! Nice Skitarii Veteran Cohort there. Grey Knights and their Dreadknights! And then the only Chaos forces who can put up a fight are Death Guard and Thousand Sons. Oh, I guess xenos are technically on the Chaos side, so the Orks, Tyranids and whatnot should be fine. World Eaters get crushed (a prevalent problem in my campaign). The main antagonists, the Black Legion themselves, get their asses kicked - especially with only one wound Marines and a vastly oudated codex. Even with summoning allowed in the Campaign, the poor Chaos and Chaos Daemon stuff get steamrolled. It'll be a one-sided campaign. What am I supposed to say? Gee, thanks for the shiny new Space Marine and Sisters stuff, let's continue kicking the Chaos guys while they're down!
No. This has to stop. I'm not much of a competitive player and while I do participate in tournaments, I kind of suck at them. I like runnng narrative events and conducting Crusade campaigns. But even I recognize the problem. You can throw away the competitive lists and try to be as fluffy and narrative as you like - hell, my Black Templars were fully Primaris for most of the campaign, running Repulsor Executioner tanks as opposed to, I dunno, 8 Terminators with storm shields in the middle of the table, Primaris Chaplain on bike and Helbrecht (and I didn't even bother with the Crusade relics or Relic Bearers in my campaign), and still they are a bit too...strong in what's meant to be a casual campaign. On the other end, Imperial Guard was like the whipping boys of the campaign except the few times the World Eaters played, and they were worse than the poor Guard.
Even if it's casual and narrative, it's currently not fun for the players who haven't had updated codexes. They did a great job for Hive Fleet Leviathan and made it competitive - the Tyranids player certainly had fun during the campaign I ran. Why can't we have more of that? Seriously, if you want to do stuff like this, you really need to sort out the timing of releases. Don't release a first book with Adeptus Astartes and Adepta Sororitas stuff before Chaos Space Marines get their codex, and have the antagonists hamstrung by an obselete codex and bad rules. Who's going to participate in the campaign? Other than World Eaters, Thousand Sons and Death Guard, I literally have no Chaos Space Marine players in the campaign. And I suspect Chaos can only play Thousand Sons and Death Guard if they want a chance even for a "casual" campaign. I don't think anyone wants to touch "regular" Chaos Space Marines right now, even though they (especially Black Legion) are supposed to be the main antagonists for this campaign!
Don't get me wrong, I love the Crusade campaigns, the lore and everything. Getting everyone to participate in them is fun...except for those whose armies are so terrible they get tabled in a couple of turns in an extremely one-sided manner - that is most certainly not fun. And this Warzone Nachmund: Vigilus Alone stuff is looking like it's going to turn into another one-sided affair for non Thousand Sons and non Death Guard Chaos players. Just...no, dudes. God-Emperor, just...for the love of Holy Terra, please sort this out. I don't know, maybe use some common sense instead of relying on marketing hype? Think about what's practical for players. Why release bonus army stuff for armies who already have a codex and continue to put off the army stuff for those without a codex? What kind of campaign am I supposed to conduct when one side has their arms tied behind their backs while the other side receives even more cool new tools to upgrade their armies?
Consider releasing the Chaos Space Marine codex and whatnot first before you launch the Warzone campaign books, that's all I'm saying. Please.

Adeptus Titanicus Terrain
I managed to get a bunch of Adeptus Titanicus terrain toooday! Originally I wanted to hold the last game for the Crusade campaign and wrap up the events on Gydisk Sigma, but unfortunately there was a Flames of War tournament today, so there was no space for us to play any Warhammer 40,000 games. A pity because Escalation is starting next week. It kind of sucks because stage 3 is at a limbo, but I'll put it on hold for now and figure something out in the future.
Though there was no space for Warhammer 40,000 games, we managed to squeeze into a table. Without much to do except slack around, I wandered around the shop and saw this. Civitas Imperialis Sector for Adeptus Titanicus. To my amazement, I saw that it cost only $25. No, seriously. A total of 16 sprues (8 big ones and 8 small ones) for Adeptus Titanicus terrain, and the whole box only cost $25. That's one hell of a deal! I was all for it. I think it's because it has been discontinued and they're clearing stock, but hell, I'll take it.
It took me a whole day, but I succeeded in assembling a bunch of terrain. At first I followed the instruction manual and did the simple ones, but then I saw the various shapes in the box art and I got bolder, experimenting with all sorts of patterns and shapes. As a result, you can see what I have right there. A lot of weird shapes and towers. So I now have very tall hab blocks where I can hide my Knights. The whole point of getting more terrain is to get stuff to block line of sight so that I don't have to worry about Titans destroying my Knights with volcano cannons. Line of sight matters, and Titans can't shoot what they can't see. With this many terrain, I should be able to avoid getting my Knights massacred. Or so I hope.
Anyway, till then!

Painted Stuff
I painted the volkite destructor and Acatus Knight Asterius today! Now all my Adeptus Titanicus stuff are fully painted, and my Warlord Titan has the volkite destructor option. Yeah, I magnetized his arms, so I can swap the volkite destructor out for a second Sunfury plasma annihilator. I sold my other Warlord Titan with the volcano cannons, quake cannon and macro gatling blaster, as well as gave away the claw, so it's just plasma and volkite. That's fine, my forge world, Draconis IV, is known for producing plasma and volkite weapons, so this fits perfectly.
I also put the Valhallan Blizzard snow and winter grass tufts on the bases of my Black Templars, so they are pretty much done! Yay! The only thing I have left is to wait for a bunch of Terminators and Imperial Fists shields and thunder hammers to arrive, and then I'll work on my Cataphractii Terminators. At least I hope that's all I need. Do I need anything else? I can't remember. That should be all...I hope. Oh, right. A third Knight Moirax, as well as another Armiger Warglaive is on the way - so I will have six Armiger class Knights in total. I can't wait to get them all painted and field them in a tournament. We'll see what happens! With Armigers getting Objective Secured, this should help me play to the mission better.
Oh, right. Here's my complete Knight Household Army with a single Warlord Titan as support! House Yato shall march to the defense of Terra! Yeah, my Adeptus Titanicus Knight Household Army can double as both Horus Heresy and Warhammer 40,000 forces. We've been around for more than 10,000 years, heh. That's why we have Glorified History as our Knight Household Tradition. We've been loyally fighting for Terra since before the Heresy, and we were even in Terra for the Siege itself (that's the setting for my short story, Slayers of Beasts, if you haven't figured it out already). So yeah, my Adeptus Titanicus Knight Household Army is themed around the Siege of Terra. We were there when Horus slew the Emperor, fighting valiantly against the overwhelming forces of Legio Mortis.
That's a lot of Knights. As an aside, I should send this to Natfka for the What's on your table stuff. I think he's looking for more photos and stuff for that, right? I dunno. Anyway, we shall see!

Slayers of Beasts
The mornful bellow from the Warmaster Titan's warhorns echoed throughout the ruins of Mercury Wall.
The engines of Legio Mortis had finally broken through the Mercury Wall, having run down the last survivors of Legio Ignatum. They continued to advance upon the beleaguered inner sanctum of the Imperial Palace. The loyalist survivors had largely retreated to the Sanctum Imperalis, leaving the outer rings of the palace to the inexorable invasion of the enemy.
Most of them, anyway.
Amidst the dense fog of dust and pollution that churned the air as orbital bombardments and artillery guns pounded the wrecked hab-blocks and manufactorums that once lined the palace's edges, several large shapes loomed, stalking the darkness. Though dwarfed by the immense Titans that battered the ruined wall and dug through the rubble with massive drill-claws, they were still titanic walkers over thirty feet in height. Azure power fields crackled to life around reaper chainswords and cerastus lances, lighting up the gloom that now haunted the holy land of Terra.
Mercury Wall might have fallen and the revered Legio Ignatum might have been all but annihilated, but the defenders continued to stand strong.
Drawn mostly from the myriad Knight houses that fought in Legio Ignatum's ill-fated last stand against their hated enemy, Legio Mortis, the bulk of the strike force was mostly comprised of Knights from House Yato. Borne of the distant world, Draconis III, the far-flung descendants of the colonists originating from the Dragon Nations had gathered together. No longer was their goal the defense of the Imperial Palace or the salvation of humanity.
No. Their goal now was vengeance. To hurt the enemy as much as possible in one desperate act of spite. To drown them in so much blood that the only outcome of this hellish war was mutual destruction. Roboute Guilliman, Lion El'Jonson and Leman Russ had failed to come, their legions yet to arrive in Sol System for the final defense. The Traitors had run rampant all over the holy soil of Terra, desecrating it.
However, all was not lost yet. Through vox communications, they could hear the enemy being bled out. The Black Sword, and the Emperor's Champion who wielded it, slaying traitor champions by the dozen and inspiring the last surviving bands of imperial army soldiers to a ferocious defiance. The victory of the V Legion over the diseased XIV Legion, retaking the Lion's Gate Spaceport from Mortarion's plague-ridden sons. The defenders of Terra were far from defeated. As long as even a single bushi drew breath, they would fight on for the Emperor.
"But we cannot be reckless," Ishida cautioned, the upper half of his Cerastus Knight Lancer pivoted about to scan the ragged area. His auspex fizzled and spat static, unable to filter the dusty environment for any useful information. "Our opponents are god-engines. You have seen th state of some of them. I do know what foul magicks they have used, but they have distorted those once-glorious machines into something...twisted and daemonic."
"Ayakashi," Kawakami growled, clenching his fists within his haptic gloves. The thunderstrike gauntlet of his Questoris Knight Errant mirrored his movements. The rest of the warriors of House Yato murmured in agreement. The Ayakashi had been longtime enemies of the Knights of Draconis III, generations of armored riders sent out to repel during the horrors of Old Night. Even if the current pilots had not actually experienced such combat, they had all heard the terrifying legends. Particularly from the ghosts that whispered to them within their Throne Mechanicum.
"Be that as it may, but we cannot allow these traitors to continue inward," Suzuki said. His Cerastus Knight Atrapos stood some distance away, its bellicose machine spirit growling. Even among the Knights of House Yato, the Atrapos had a fearsome reputation that matched its function of hunting the largest enemy engines and monsters and slaying them. As such, even the fellow nobles remained wary of his armor.
"We are few in number and they are many," Tanaka pointed out with a sigh. Steam vented from the plasma decimator of his Dominus Knight Castellan, which was still warm after obliterating an armored column of enemy tanks. He was exhausted, having just rejoined his lance after assisting the First Terran Armoured in their long march toward the Lion's Gate Spaceport. "I lost my Bondsmen to the XIV Legion. Fighting against the Death Guard tanks was already risky. Titans will be a lot more dangerous."
"Heh, have you lost your nerve, Tanaka?" Suzuki taunted. "I did not think your little adventure with the White Scars would turn you into a coward."
"No, I am simply advising caution."
"So what do you suggest?" Kawakami demanded. "We can't just sit around doing nothing."
"No," Tanaka agreed. "But I've learned something from the V Legion. Hit and run tactics...strike fast, and then fade into the darkness before the enemy realizes what hit them. As long as we are careful, we can take down the greatest enemy with minimal losses."
"Minimal losses?" Suzuki barked out in laughter, and his Knight Atrapos gestured its lascutter toward the blackened skies as an imitation of its pilot's gesture. "Do you think there will be anything left?"
"Maybe not," Ishida cut in. "But that doesn't mean we should throw our lives away. As long as we remain alive, we can continue hitting back for as long as possible, and as many times as possible."
"Agreed." Kawakami nodded, his features obscured by the grainy image of the holo-picts floating in their Thrones Mechanicum. "I would rather fell two Titans than just one."
"I have a target for you guys, actually," Tanaka said with a smile. He conjured a fresh holo-screen and transmitted it to the others. "This particular enemy seems to have strayed away from its maniple, and we can strike it before it groups up with others."
The Infernus Magnificus was once a magnificent Titan, but its shape had been twisted by the daemons that now inhabited its warped structure. A Warmaster Titan of the Iconoclast class, it had been hidden in the armories of Mars until Kelbor-Hal had sanctioned for its release to Legio Mortis. Having served the Death Heads over several battlefields since then, the twisted engine only grew more unrecognizable with each slaugher, with the laughing unholy essences within its frame transforming their new home into shapes more pleasing to their bestial natures.
Ghostly fires spiraled out from what used to be vents, and its drill had now adopted a shape closer to clawed talons. Its skull-like face had mutated into a spectral facade, infernal fire burning within its sockets and mouth, and a slimy tongue lolled out, as if to taste the thick, gritty air that now saturated Holy Terra.
With another low growl, the Infernus Magnificus stomped across the wreckage. It had wandered away from its maniple, having sighted a small column of armor moving toward the distance. Having recognized the imperial tanks as prey, it stalked after them. One arm, formerly a Desolator chainsword, had now warped into a fleshy, snout-shaped blade with dripping fangs running along its edges. Without a proper ranged weapon other than the rotary cannons fitted into its carapace and shoulder-mounted melta cannons, it was forced to get up close to the fleeing tanks. Unfortunately, it lost its prey in the fog of dust. Wailing, the Infernus Magnificus stalked the region in hopes of running down the tanks, but its persistent search bore no fruit.
As distracted as it was by its elusive prey, the Infernus Magnificus did not notice the stealthy pack of much smaller predators closing in on it through the thick clouds of dust.
Like packs of Deinonychus hunting titanic sauropods during a primordial era in Old Earth's distant past, the Knights worked together to flank the Infernus Magnificus's rear arc. They had kept their weapons powered down, hoping not to trigger any sensors.
The first instance the Infernus Magnificus noticed that something was amiss was when the servitors hideously fused to the fleshy overgrowths that now spread across its mighty frame jolted and pinged their auspexes. The Ardex-defensor cannons began spitting out mauler bolt rounds at the ghostly silhouettes of Knights. Most of them missed, for the servitors' senses and the daemons' sight alike were befouled by the fog of dust. The daemons, in particular, were feeling sluggish when in close proximity to the wards in the palace.
Enju, Kawakami's Knight Errant, took a glance blow from one of the Ardex-defensor cannons, but he managed to deflect it with his ion shield. His thermal cannon glowed and roared, an incendiary beam lancing toward the Warmaster Titan's void shields and dissipating harmlessly.
By now, the Infernus Magnificus was turning around, its Desolator chainsword sweeping about to cleave the irritants into oblivion. But the Cerastus Knights moved quickly, keeping to its rear arc. Artificial lightning crackled around the lance of Ishida's Kishido, and he rammed it against the leg joints of the immense Titan.
The Infernus Magnificus appeared to bellow in agony, its warhorns shrieking so loudly that glass exploded in hab blocks and other units...those that remained unbroken after months of intense fighting and bombardment. It teetered, as if drunk, and then swiped, but Kishido had already moved away, making use of its superior agility to stay out of the devastating weapon's reach.
Ankoku then struck with its Atrapos las-cutter. Suzuki had timed it perfectly, when Infernus Magnificus was still targeting Kishido. The crackling beam scythed through the already weakened joints, slicing through exposed cables and leaving a molten gouge in the adamantium armor. Not satisfied with the damage, Suzuki stuck the graviton singularity cannon into the breach and fired at pointblank range. Black energies swirled about, crumpling metal and adamantium like an aluminium can that was still used by some more affluent regiments for ration-packs and drinks. Something must have gone critical, for internal explosions rang through the limb and the Infernus Magnificus sagged to one side.
However, the wounded beast was still dangerus. While Ankoku withdrew, it was not able to avoid the crushing grip of the Krius drill. One strike and Suzuki's Knight literally ceased to exist, reduced to shrapnel of metal as the screaming drill smashed his armor apart.
Suzuki's sacrifice was not in vain, for Kawakami maneuvered Enju toward the Titan's damaged leg. Firing the thermal cannon at pointblank range, Kawakami further softened the already burning joints. The limb was not entirely severed, but the adamantium armor was glowing red-hot and melting. Retreating swiftly, having learned from Suzuki's mistake, Kawakam left a spiteful slash with Enju's glowing Thunderstrike Gauntlet to rip out a chunk of ceramite and a handful of sparking cables before he darted away from the swinging Desolator chainsword.
The Infernus Magnificus snarled and reached out with its drill, but was distracted by minor explosions that spread across its void shields. Despite the damage to its left leg, the generator continued to hum, putting up a near impenetrable wall of voids that absorbed the ordnance from Tanaka's Knight Castellan. Kuro Ryuu was throwing out bursts of plasma from its plasma decimator and siegebreaker cannons, but none of the rounds broke through the void shields.
Then ruby lances of volkite slammed against the protective curtain, causing them to shimmer and pop like bubbles. A lance of Questoris Knights Styrix wearing the colors of House Kanda. The Mechanicus-algined house that served the neighboring forge world of Draconis IV, they were armed with esoteric weaponry. Immense volkite beams speared out of their volkite chieoroviles, taxing the void shield generators of the Infernus Magnificus and superheating them. The shimmering layers turned red from the intense heat and began to pop out of existence, one at a time.
However, this being the Warmaster Titan, it had countless void shields. A few collapsed, but still many remained standing. The shoulder-mounted melta cannons roared and one of the Knights Styrix winked out of existence, the incadescent blast melting it to slag. The rest of its banner quickly dispersed, avoiding the heavy rounds from the Infernus Magnificus's gatling cannons.
Then a single massive beam slammed into the last of the Infernus Magnificus's void shields, smashing it apart with a volcanic burst of superheated air. Ryuujin, the Warlord Titan of Legio Draconis - the sworn defenders of Draconis IV, strode forward, its volkite destructor roaring in fury. The Iconoclast-class Titan turned its fury toward Ryuujin, its melta cannons and gatling cannons snarling and battering the Warlord Titan's void shields out of existence. But it didn't intend to finish off the venerable machine at range. Its Krius drill was already spinning, threatening to slay the smaller Titan in close combat.
Tanaka saw his chance to save Princeps Kurosawa's machine. Now that the void shields of the enemy Titan had completely collapsed, he could pinpoint a target. Holding his breath, he lined the targeters on his auspex up, lifted up the volcano lance of Kuro Ryuu, and fired.
The massive beam erupted from the barrel and lanced through the damaged components on Infernus Magnificus's leg, finally separating it. For a moment, it appeared that Infernus Magnificus would not fall, the damage apparently superficial. However, it ground to a stop as its leg refused to obey its commands, vital cables and components ruptured, bathing the huge chambers within in flames and incinerating both neverborn and servitors alike.
Princeps Kurosawa did not miss his chance. Lining the Sunfury plasma annihilator of Ryuujin up, he melted the already softened remnants of Infernus Magnificus's leg to slag. With a howling groan, the Warmaster Titan teetered and toppled over, crashing facefirst into the dirt.
Kuro Ryuu and Enju converged, firing their thermal cannon and volcano lance into the torso, stripping away layers of armor. Ryuujin roared and its carapace turbo-laser destructors fired, gouging out more of the armor and exposing the plasma reactor. With another well-aimed shot from the super-charged plasma annihilator, Kurosawa slew the Infernus Magnificus with a superheated salvo that ruptured the plasma reactor and blew the fallen Titan up in a castastrophic explosion.
"Well fought, Knights of House Yato." The proud voice of Princeps Kurosawa was carried across the vox in their Thrones Mechanicum. "Good hunting."
"We would have lost more if it weren't for your assistance, honored Princeps," Ishida said.
"That does not lessen your courage and valor," Kurosawa responded. The Knights could hear the smile in his voice. "It heartens me that resistance continues even in these dark days."
"We follow the example of the Emperor's Champion. As long as even one of us remains standing, we will fight to the end." Kawakami was grim. "For the Emperor."
"For the Omnissiah, indeed." Kurosawa nodded. "Then...will you accompany me as we hunt down more of these abominations?"
"We will be honored to join you, noble Princeps," Tanaka said. He felt a tremendous sense of relief. With a Warlord Titan fighting by their side, perhaps their Knight Lance could take out more enemies before the inevitable end.
Perhaps they would all die here, on the ancestral homeworld of humanity...but he was determined to stave it off for as long as he could...and punish as many of the Emperor's enemies as possible.

Acastus Knight Asterius and Volkite Destructor
Finally got around to working on some Adeptus Titanicus stuff. I built an Acastus Knight Asterius and a Volkite Destructor for my Warlord Titan. Will paint them sometime in the future, hopefully I will not procrastinate as I did for assembling these couple of stuff. I really put off painting my 8 Black Templar models for quite some time...I'll add the Valhallan Blizzard snow when I paint these two. Get everything done in one shot.
At least that's the plan...but I don't know when that will happen. We shall see...anyway, hopefully we'll have a great year for Warhammer 40,000! I might or might not get some Chaos Knights to ally with my Thousand Sons (couldn't care less about the Cabal Points, and vanilla Thousand Sons are seemingly pretty bad right now). We shall see. I don't know.
I've been reading quite a lot of Warhammer 40,000 novels published by Black Library, particularly the Siege of Terra novels. I like Mortis and Warhawk, those two being the latest books I've read, though Saturnine is still my favorite. Can't wait for Aaron Dembski-Bowden's book! I'm a little bummed that Knights don't get a huge role - there were the Armiger bondsmen (or bondswoman) in Mortis, but otherwise Knghts don't really feature other than mentions. I like the First Terran Armor in Warhawk, but I'm surprised there were no Knights among them. Maybe I'll try writing a fanfiction story about a lance of Knights accompanying and escorting the First Terran Armor, assisting the White Scars against the Death Guard. Might be fun, but nobody's going to read it, so I might just get lazy and not write it. Heh.
For now, I'll be getting a couple more Armigers to add to my Imperial Knights army and play them more often this year. Maybe I'll play Black Templars once in a while - they are so fun, and I love the Cataphractii Terminators with Imperial Fists shields (I field them as Templar Brethren in 30K or Black Templars) - but I want to focus more on Knights in terms of tournament stuff. We'll see if I can pull it off. If not, well...it is what it is. I'll also focus more on my Mechanicum army for Horus Heresy. Seems like my friends will be organizing a Horus Heresy narrative event in February, so I'll get a chance to test out my new Mechanicum army (plus Knights) there! I'll do my best again this year. Anyway, till then!

Painted Sword Brethren
The original plan was to play Crusade today, but...nobody except Adrian showed up. Well, Ryan did too, but he had to leave early. So...yeah, no Crusade today. A pity, otherwise we would be doing Onslaught games today. On the other hand, there was a Flames of War tournament at the friendly local gaming store, so I doubt we would be able to find a table or space for 150 power level games today.
So I ended up painting instead! I wasn't able to finish painting fully, but I got most of it done. All the colors - I was unable to do the basing, but at least I painted the bases white. Just need to add Valhallan Blizzard and grass tufts later, but otherwise I'm almost done. Probably will get them all done sometime this week or so. Hopefully, but we'll never know.
Anyway, that's what I did today in lieu of Crusade! I painted 2 Assault Intercessors, the Sword Brethren plus Castellan and a Repulsor Executioner! Also painted the pintle multimeltas for my Repulsor Executioner tanks. Glad to get it all done and over with. All that's left is the Valhallan Blizzard and grass tufts, but otherwise I'm pretty much close to done. Can't wait to finish them!
Then I'll probably move on to my next project, which is...I dunno. More Black Templar Terminators? Oh, right. I'll be getting a couple more Castellax battle-automata soon, in preparation for a Horus Heresy gaming day that will most likely be on February 5th. Can't wait for that too! Till then!

A couple of Titanicus games
To start off the new year, I had a couple of Adeptus Titanicus games. Man, I love Adeptus Titanicus and my Knights. As usual, I fielded a Knight Household Army against Titans.
The first match was against a friend with Legio Tempestus. He wanted to try out his new Warmaster Iconoclast Titan, so yay. He fielded the Warmaster alongside 2 Warhounds, a Reaver and 2 Cerastus Knight Lancers. In contrast, my list was 2 Knight Lances - 2 Cerastus Knights Atrapos, 2x2 Questoris Knights Styrix, and then 4 Cerastus Kights Lancer, 3 Questoris Knights Errant and 3 Questoris Knights Paladin. They were accompanied by 2 auxiliary banners of 2 Acastus Knights Porphyrion.
The mission was Conquest (?) where we scored victory points for having our units within range of the opponent's table edge, and another 5 points if the opponent didn't have any of his units within range of their table age. It took place on a toxic world, which meant our Knights took damage on a 6+, and there was smog, which meant that units couldn't shoot at anything that's less than a distance equal to twice their scale. That might sound complicated, but basically, if I want to shoot at a Warhound, I had to be within 12" of it to target it (because it's scale 6). Otherwise all shots outside 12" automatically miss. For a Warmaster, I needed to be 24" away from it to target it because it's scale 12.
The deployment zone was a little weird. Anyway, it seemed that my opponent went first and I couldn't get many orders off because I kept rolling 1s for the D10 command checks. Fortunately, shielded by the smog, I was able to keep my Knights alive...mostly.
Until the Warmaster finally came within range. At first, it hilariously whiffed with its drill when it charged at my Knights Paladin, rolling a bunch of 1s or something. I wasn't able to do much damage to it because of how tough it was, but I did manage to disable its plasma blastguns eventually. Nonetheless, the Warmaster destroyed the Knights Errant in the combat phase, while I only killed 1 Knight Lancer in return. One Warhound suffered critical damage to the legs because of plasma mines, but I wasn't able to do much damage.
For most of the game, I could only see my Knights fall to the Warmaster when it got too close, and though I was somehow able to destroy the Knight Lancers, I basically lost 2 Knights Porphyrion and an entire lance. Eventually, I had just the banner of 2 Acastus Knights Porphyrion and the Knight Atrapos and 3 Knights Styrix left. Aware that I couldn't do anything to the Ttans, especially with the smog - and actually making use of the smog to my advantage, I hid my beleaguered Knights away and kept 2 Knights Porphyrion close to the opponent's table edge while my Knights Styrix and Knights Atrapos danced away from the Titans and hugged my table edge thanks to Full Stride order finally going through.
The game then ended with my Knights running and hiding away from the Titans. It seemed like a draw - my opponent's Reaver Titan survived, giving him 5 points for Secondary, whereas I got 5 points for denying him the "opponent has no units near his table edge" objective and getting it myself. We got the same for primary objective because we had units right along the respective table edges, so it was a draw. I didn't get the secondary objective because I needed to kill a Titan or 2 in the first 2 turns, or at least kill them both by the end of the game, which I failed to do. Fortunately, one of the Stratagems I took was a tertiary objective that allowed me to get 2 points for every structurally compromised Titan that my opponent had. So I won, but just barely. Won by 2 points! That was a really close game! Honestly, my opponent should have won and he nearly tabled me, but the smog and playing to the mission really helped a lot.
The second game was against another friend. We were supposed to play Crusade today, but some things happened, and...yeah. Suffice to say, he was't able to olay Crusade against an opponent who was already there, so I suggested we play, and he wanted an Adeptus Titanicus game instead. That suited me just fine.
I fielded the same Knight Household Army, but my opponent brought 2 Warlord Titans - both with Belicosa volcano cannons - 2 Reaver Titans and 2 Warhound Titans. The mission this time was Acquisition, with us needing to grab objective markers and bring them away. There was radiation instead of smog, which would increase reactor level if the Titans were too close to the storm. And then the world was a War World? Which we completely forgot about.
Anyway, it was hilarious. The Warlord Titans decimated and destroyed tons of my Knights. My opponent picked up the marker with his Warhound Titans and then ran away with it, only for my Acastus Knights Porphyrion to shoot them in the back (getting bonus armor penetration damage) and blow them up. The first one blew up catastrophically and killed his squadron mate. Ouch.
Even though I lost even more Questoris Knights here and there, my Knight Lancers made it to the Warlord Titan and slew it in combat after a charge and combat phase. Even better, my Knights Porphyrion killed a Reaver Titan. Engine kill! The Warlord Titans retaliated and destroyed 3 of my 4 Acastus Knights. Ouch. That was so...ouch. Meanwhile, my surviving Knight Lancer made it to the Reaver Titan and slew it in combat again, only to get blown up by the magazine detonation. Ouch. The Warlord Titan took a hit from the explosion, but was otherwise perfectly fine. Having picked up the marker, the surviving Knight Atrapos and a couple of Knights Styrix hid behind buildings and stayed out of line of sight from the sole remaining Warlord Titan, as did my last Knight Porphyrion. The game ended with my Knight force being almost annihilated, but we somehow won because of the primary objective. I think my opponent had 4 points for slaying my Seneschal, while I had 15 points for primary. I can't remember my secondary, but I think it had something to do with Make them Suffer, which meant that I gained points if my opponent's Titan was structurally compromised. They were either dead or not structurally compromised, so I didn't get that one. Oh, well. But a win was still a win, heh.
That was fun! I love Adeptus Titanicus. I hope to be playing more of it again this year!
